Is anybody interested in Urban Exploration (The exploration of abandoned places)
I really want to explore the Preston Trugo club but it's on a train line. Even though I'm really close it would be too hard to get in without being seen. I wonder if there are pictures online.

Next on the list is Footscray.
Footscray was one of four original clubs to start and had the first purpose built grass trugo pitch, it was also one of the first clubs to have it's own clubhouse which still stands today. A long and proud club with a rich history it stood the test of times until 2007 when it could no longer field a competitive side and was forced to pull out of the competition. It's clubhouse and playing pitch sat idle and fell into disrepair with vagrants and vandals misusing the facilities and forcing the local council to condemn them.
In 2016 a group of locals worked hard to re-establish the Footscray Trugo Club by firstly fixing the playing area, seats, fences and gardens. Next they welcomed other locals and those interested to 'come and try' to play the game and eventually got enough people to kick start the club and will play again in 2018. Unfortunately the clubhouse is still in disrepair but won't take long to get them useable again.
The Footscray side does not have any logo or colours but I am led to believe they wore Yellow and a type of green?

I have designed them with a link to their fellow football club, but instead of calling them Bulldogs and getting them mixed up or confused with I have decided to go with Doggies.

Hi 3121, sounds like you've done a terrific amount of research into Trugo and the clubs! Are you a player with one of the clubs? I'm just asking because people who know that much about Trugo usually play the game :)

I'm involved in the revived Footscray TC and saw your thread for the first time today. As you say, Footscray will be returning to competition play later this year, when the new season starts in September. The other clubs have warmly welcomed us back as they are happy to see the club resurrected. Sadly though Yarraville Eagles won't field a team next season due to lack of numbers and their players will play with their co-tenant Yarraville TC. It is hoped that the Eagles can bounce back.

Footscray's colours now are red, white and blue, like the Doggies, but as you said the colours used to be yellow and green. You can still see those colours in the paint colours of some of the fixtures at our home ground. There's also a photo of some of the players from the original club in their yellow polo shirts on an old blog: http://footscraytrugoclub.blogspot.com/

The revived club has received terrific support from the locals and from council. Our social days have been very well attended and we look forward to weekly comp play in the next season!

Went in 1 or 2 months ago, the building is impossible to open and the windows are boarded up but there's a hole in the fence that is very easy to fit through. Right now there's nothing in there worth seeing that isn't visible from the outside.

Thanks for the kind words and it's great to hear more info about the setup.
I've been down to a few of the open days they've had and I donated time and money to both Footscray and Brunswick.

Due to work commitments I can not play during the week and this is a hurdle I see most clubs have trouble avoiding. If the league could have it's pennant games on Thursday and club games on Saturday it would work a lot better and would attract more people to the game, similar to what barefoot bowls has done to their game.

Hey Fizzler did you end up getting pictures when you were in the Trugo club?
Nah unfortunately, didn't have my camera on me at the time. Might go in again before they knock it down and take pictures then.

Don't worry, I'm terrified of mice/rats/cats, always see them when I go to places like that. The building's completely sealed shut though, and since the Trugo club is right next to the train station it'd be impossible to open it up without creating suspicion and ultimately having the cops or PSO's called. I'll definitely shoot you a PM when I'm there though.

Yeah, I had another look and I'll get pictures of the sunrise over the Trugo club tomorrow. It's completely trashed and painted an ugly cream colour.

G'day, great job on the artwork! Although I think Footscray are now called the Doughnuts :)
Trugo is alive and is growing! All welcome at our social days, come and give it a try.

Yes they are the Footscray Doughnuts and their new side the Footscray Gumnuts.
I headed down to Ascot Vale and watched a few games this passed season and quite enjoyed how close the players and volunteers are, what a great time.

I’ll get back to this as soon as I get another computer.
If anyone would love to help out and make some better or updated logos then go ahead.
