You say it’s about white male privilege and then half your points have nothing to do with white male pivlege. Biden being a socialist. BLM being a communist plot. Democrats rioting and not being punished. None of that has anything to do with white male privilege.

Of course it is. The right call anything related to equality socialism.

Want to raise taxes on the rich and powerful to reduce their power and give some to the poor? That's socialism.

Want to give everyone healthcare because poor people can't afford it? That's socialism (this one is true, but they're only opposed to it because it means higher taxes on people who can afford it).

They call BLM communists, but really they're just challenging the white, male and privileged. They're not allowed to call them the n word any more so they call them commies. As if equality is some evil plot and not what the US was founded on.

You start out in 1954 by saying, “n*gg*r, n****r, n****r.” By 1968 you can’t say “n****r”—that hurts you, backfires. So you say stuff like, uh, forced busing, states’ rights, and all that stuff, and you’re getting so abstract. Now, you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites.… “We want to cut this,” is much more abstract than even the busing thing, uh, and a hell of a lot more abstract than “N****r, n****r.”

Former Republican strategist Lee Atwater, advisor to Reagan and George HW Bush, who extensively used the “Southern Strategy” in campaigns.

The BLM leaders call THEMSELVES Marxists.

The Right didn't invent it.

And Marxists they are, right down to using donations to bankroll multiple property purchases.

Thought this must have been a joke. Should have known better.

“So the next time you see someone in a mask on the sidewalk or on the bike path, do not hesitate. Ask politely but firmly, ‘Would you please take off your mask? Science shows there is no reason for you to be wearing it. Your mask is making me uncomfortable.’”
Your mask is making me uncomfortable :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:

Nice one, Tuck. America, land of the free!

Your advantage is that you're very special.
I dislike your inference... just because you don't like him you have to make a jibe about something else.. you know I am
partial to equalisation and never denigrating people .. you are joking in a way but the joke has to be dumped.. just like
blondes are dumb, red heads are angry, gays are always wearing clothes they don't match with as well as blacks who are
always getting police attention..

Yes I digress and this is obviously all not coherent but my husband told me to put this down and agrees with it too..

I understand exactly what you mean and you’re bang on.

You can't just look at Carlson's odd speech/segment in isolation.

If you watch his shows regularly they're always about the same issues with a different angle. It's always fear for white people losing their privilege.

Whether it's
- immigrants diluting the voting pool (and he was specific about it being 3rd world immigrants, which is code for brown people, white Europeans are fine apparently)
- Wokeness taking racism/sexism/homophobia out of streaming platforms
- Democrats rioting all over the country and not being punished (they're being punished)
- Poor Capitol invaders being punished for committing serious crimes (including likely sedition)
- BLM being a communist plot
- Biden being a socialist

There's no let up, no good news stories, it's just fear 24/7. In isolation, maybe he steers close enough to ideology for some of it to be excused. But if you look at his entire body of work, there's no doubt his agenda is protecting white male privilege in any way he can, including racism, sexism and fear-mongering.

You have imagined most of that.

The modern left have pretty much abandoned the working class. They are much more interested in gender equality, critical race theory and climate change than jobs, immigration, education, and basic law and order. Populism has filled the void so you get Trump, Boris and Brexit.

But then you get Tucker Carlson, who is from the right, but speaks out about the abuses of the big tech monopolies, government overreach, the corrupt relationships between corporations and government. These are super important issues but the left isn't talking about this stuff.

Apart from Biden being the most pro Union President in like forever, apart from all the construction jobs created by his infrastructure spending, apart from capping health insurance premiums, apart from sacking all the pro-corporate members on the National Labor Council on day one, apart from increasing Union organising capability, apart from backing a $15 minimum wage, apart from backing paid sick and family leave, apart from boosting collective bargaining, apart from decreasing use of gig labour, apart from student loan relief.....

..... yeah the American left has abandoned the working class.

Carlson is using those things to muddy the waters so that people distrust what they're reading (especially the truth).

The truth is that Biden and the Democrats are focused on healthcare, infrastructure, voting rights and increased taxes on corporations to pay for it.

Now I can understand that if you watched conservative media you would think the "Left" is all about those things you mentioned. But they're not. Biden barely talks about that stuff. The extremes of the left, the socialists might talk about that stuff, but it's not the mainstream Democrats. It's the conservative media who raise up the fringe topics to distract conservative viewers from the good the Democrats are trying to do.

The "left" talks about corrupt relationships between corporations and Government more than conservatives. What exactly did Republicans do about Government/corporate corruption? Donald Trump doesn't even know what Fringe Benefits Taxes are.

The idea the Fox News exposes the too-close relationship between large corporations and Government better than anyone is ludicrous in the extreme. Fox and Government are the worst examples of Corporate and Government corruption and it's worse in Australia than in the US. See: NBN, Foxtel grants, Sky News.

There are two talking points the Right push about the Biden Presidency. One is that he's barely in control. The other is that he's pushing a "radical left" agenda. (Both of which can't really be true, can they?).

Neither of which is true. But the fact they're being repeated on this forum is enough to show how effective that messaging has been.

You have to actively ignore the actual legislation being developed around health, voting rights and infrastructure to believe what you want about the Dems.

Meanwhile Trump couldn't even finish a measly little wall and his long time CFO is going to jail for tax fraud. Which is being painted as a "process crime" when it's a CFO pretending he doesn't know what a Fringe Benefit Tax is. The current GOP defence against crimes is "We're too stupid to understand all this stuff" or "Our followers are too stupid if they follow our lies about election fraud".

Yet "Sleepy Joe Biden" is the one who doesn't know what day it is?

Who's being taken for a ride?

I did find the arrest of that little bald accountant amusing. Team of about 10 Feds. Marched in front of a bunch of conveniently assembled media. Handcuffed.

I hope if Trump has evaded taxes he faces the same consequences as anyone else that does so.

But it kinda seems a bit of a letdown after all the talk of treason etc.

In other news, I think we all (sadly) know someone who has taken their own life. It's an awful thing. Far more should be done to prevent it.

I notice the Clintons have been terribly unlucky in this regard. Something like 50+ friends and acquaintances seem to have lost the will to live.

Maybe the Clinton Foundation could put some money towards research into this scourge.

Take off the tin-foil-hat, Bruce.

It's amazing how much the lies spread and people don't bother to look at slightly more reputable sources as a cross-check. A lot of those 50 include car-crashes, heart attacks and a mugging-murder. Basically anyone who ever knew the Clinton's who died has been laid at their feet.

Can you imagine what Fox News would be like if the Clinton's lawyer was dis-barred and their financial manager sent to jail for tax fraud on their behalf?

Pulls out his notes to make sure he stays on message. Everyone knows he's not as sharp as he used to be. But he's still sharper than Trump ever was/has been.

I still judge their actions and legislation rather than some gotcha moments that the media likes to focus on. Policy and governance just doesn't gain clicks, but it does change people's lives.

The other day he had that renowned white supremacist Naomi Wolff on the show. She had recently been deplatformed by Twitter for expressing a view that there should be a bipartisan approach to protecting free speech. She highlighted Big Tech's influence in the virus and lockdown process. And cited how Bezos, Gates, Zuckerberg and Dorsey have all gained by tens of billions in the last year.
You can still be a white supremacist without exclusively interviewing other white supremacists. Isn't that obvious?

Whether Carlson is in fact a white supremacist is open for the debate. I'd say he leans into it - whether he actually subscribes to it, I'm not sure. But your argument that "he can't be a white supremacist because he has people on his show who aren't white supremacists" - that's nonsense.

Ben Shapiro is a religious conservative. But OMG he had Russell Brand on his show so he can't be!

Also, don't downplay the eccentricity of Naomi Wolff's views simply because it suits your argument.

He never mentions vertically integrated media conglomerates - and way to fall for the Right caricature of the left. If you are going by twitter that is true but twitter is not reality. What about the fight for fifteen, or the platform worker strikes, or the attempts to unionise amazon - not exactly intersectional identity politics is it - also Bernie's agenda was not particularly IDPOL

These are vast generalisations and they can quite easily be punctured.

Sure, liberal elites have become removed from the economic concerns of the working class and have instead leaned into cultural issues, just as the RW leans into its own set of cultural issues. But that doesn't account for all of the "modern left". That's nonsense.

Do you think Biden is particularly woke?

Tell me, which side of politics would you say is more supportive of unions, for example? Which side of politics is more supportive of increasing the minimum wage? Which side of politics is more supportive of affordable health care and education?

These are all bread and butter issues. So already, the basis for your statement above is questionable, to put it mildly.

When you're talking about Trump, Boris and Brexit, you're talking about fake populism that leans on culture war issues and a sense of grievance among a certain sector of the population that feels left behind. It plays well but how do these fake populists actually address those economic concerns? Look at Trump: his single legislative achievement was passing tax cuts that overwhelmingly benefited the richest Americans. That's populism? It's the stock standard GOP approach of looking after the donor class. Oh but Trump is a man of the people who looks after "real Americans"! How exactly? By railing against elites while cutting their taxes? He's happy to lean into that RW sense of grievance but in the meantime he's pushing the same old corporatist agenda while also grifting, hollowing out insititutions and degrading democracy for his own benefit. How is he not a member of the "corrupt elite" he claims to despise on behalf of his voters?

So don't talk to me about how the left has "abandoned the working class" while fake populists like Trump come riding to the rescue. That's absolute nonsense.

But then you get Tucker Carlson, who is from the right, but speaks out about the abuses of the big tech monopolies, government overreach, the corrupt relationships between corporations and government. These are super important issues but the left isn't talking about this stuff.
I'd file all of this under RW populism. What we're seeing in US politics is the demise of the GOP establishment, replaced by something more like the National Front in France. Marine Le Pen would fit beautifully into Fox News primetime.

That aside, who do you consider to be "the left"?

Elizabeth Warren has been talking about breaking up big tech like Amazon, Google and Facebook for ages. Is she not "the left"?

As for the "corrupt relationships between corporations and government", I reckon Bernie Sanders has been talking about that for 40 years. Is he not "the left"? That issue is one of the biggest hobby horses on the left so I don't know what you're talking about when you say no one is discussing it. That's also nonsense.

Look at the Citizens United case, for example, which removed barriers to corporate funding of political campaigns, essentially releasing a torrent of dark money into the system. If you're worried about the "corrupt relationships between corporations and government", presumably you know all about it? Folks on the left are desperate to repeal it. Citizens United, which brought the case, is a conservative action group. Its president and chairman, David Bossie, was Trump's deputy campaign manager.

Do you remember when Mitt Romney defended low taxes on corporations by claiming "corporations are people"?

So honestly, what are you talking about? And don't get me wrong, Hillary Clinton was willing to benefit from this system as much as anyone. But the system, and those "corrupt relationships between corporations and government", is a result of RW lobbying and activism.

For your reference, I've enjoyed listening to this guy recently...

I disagree. This is only one side of the coin. The corporate plutocracy/MIC has certainly corrupted the media so that the public get short-changed.

But it's not a Dems/GOP being the same. It's the GOP being far to the right of their constituency's interests, and same with the Dems.

But if we had 60 Dems in the Senate, I think the US would implement Universal health-care and a big shift away from fossil fuels (and therefore wars in the Middle East) as well as expanded infrastructure.

It's the corporations, media and GOP who oppose progress. But if the Dems were able to gain power in both houses, there would be progress.

It's the history of western corporate politics. The conservatives exist to oppose progress and every now and then the progressive parties get little wins and the conservatives try to undo it.

NBN - Labor plan, would benefit everyone, LNP ruined most of it, but a lot got done.
NDIS - Labor plan, would benefit everyone, LNP trying to ruin it
Medicare - Labor plan, benefits everyone, LNP trying to ruin it for 30+ years now.

Can't think of the LNP attempting anything which looked like progress.

The LNP/GOP are anti-progressive and the Dems/ALP try to make progress.
