Tribunal LIVE: Toby Greene elbow 'not a reflex ... it's a technique'

GREENE'S CASE FOR MEDIUM IMPACT

We're going ahead with submissions on impact and Anderson highlights there was no fracture or missed training.

He says contact to the throat can be painful and cause relatively significant injury, but contact was not to the head and it was therefore not likely to result in any concussion.

He is essentially arguing the risk of serious injury should not apply in this case.

DIRECTIONS FOR THE JURY

Chairman Ross Howie is now summarising for the jury.

He says the jury must first decide if Greene's conduct was prudent in all the circumstances.

He draws attention to the differing ways Greene's actions were classified by Gleeson and Anderson as a technique and a reflex action.

If the jury decides his actions were careless, they will then decide whether impact was medium or high.

If they decide his actions were not careless, Greene will be cleared.
They'll now deliberate and we'll have a result as soon as it is announced.

….

I think it’ll stay a suspension but possibly 1 but even still they’ll appeal again.

Not careless IMO. Smart footballers lift their arms so they can still dispose of the ball even if they get tackled around the body/upper legs.

Was instinct at a split second. Danger was unlucky but the Moggs Creek messiah's a flog so Toby should get off.

You can't penalise footy smarts FFS.

Made a fair point too. Greene didnt raise his elbow above shoulder height meaning it should have collected Dangerfield in the chest had he not slipped just prior to the impact.

The AFL really do need to make the rules stricter. A fend off can only be an open palm. A fist or elbow or forearm or anything else cannot be excused if a player is collected high.

Also interesting that despite the Medium/High impact Dangerfield trained yesterday and is available to play next week - despite the night in hospital.

Yeah lift their arms not extend their elbows 🤪
The real flogs are Greene who keep doing despicable things on and off the field.
Greene even gets off actual eye gouges against Bontempelli, not sure how anyone feels sorry for him.

Spreading your arms whilst lifted gives a smart footy player more scope, width and range of direction to dispose of the ball.

Putting your hands straight up with ball in hand you can only really hit it forward or backwards (blindly) or not ot any great distance either side - not so smart

Was that what you said when he played the week after eye gouging Bontempelli?

Was not an eye gouge.

I’d have less issue with Greene going if Selwood went as well oh and about 25 other incidents. They can’t pick and choose which ones they want to suspend

Are you unable to say Franklin?

As I said last week he should have been suspended- if they suspended the other ones like Vlaustin, etc. That is my point you can’t pick and choose which one to apply the “let’s suspend him”

You must be laughing how Selwood only gets fines when he gets sited

He should’ve been suspended but bumps without causing injury don’t usually get suspended. Sure it should be but it’s not what happens which is stupid.
I’m still filthy Selwood got a suspension for a little push on his brother.
Protected LOL

1 week, should have walked free. Feel bad for Greene, targeted by the AFL constantly.
