Read main board and my conlucsion:

Sydney supporters should stick to rugby, they have no idea and they are having a waa about losing

A moderator said this:

"Its not a tactic, its Riewoldt jumping too early and dropping the mark and Craig Bolton keeping his ground as he (and ANY player) is entitled to do."

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

no.

It actually happened to Kosi & someone else too, that's all that needs to be said I guess!

Oh & could you imagine if that happened to Barry Hall. I can picture the tears streaming down their computer monitors. "Barry Hall never gets free kicks". "Barry Hall is an angel". Wah wah....get a clue!!!!!!!

Not sure how you can defend taking the legs out of someone mid-air.
It should have been a free kick, if the umpires paid the free each time they did it, St Kilda would not have to raise it afterwards.

oh of course if it was hall, all we'd hear is "ohh he never gets a free, blah blah blah",

Just read the Swans forum for the first and last time.

They have Rooey showering with the umpires after the game.

And here I was thinking he was going to end up with a broken neck and no free kicks.

He ends up with one friggin free kick, and then gets flak? WTF?

Does anyone else think it might have been introduced to test out Nick's knee? I might be drawing a long bow here, but it was something that had crossed my mind.

Can't say I'm surprised. Football fans are usually quick to defend the actions of their team, and Sydney supporters would be well-versed in this habit by now.

Anyone with any common sense though would acknowledge that taking a guy's legs from under him while he's in the air is a dispicable tactic

I saw what happened to Riewoldt on TV .
The AFL has to stamp this tunnelling out NOW .Its just as bad as the grapple tackle in Rugby which has been outlawed .
How the hell Riewoldt didnt get seriously injured was a miracle .
The Saints and other clubs have to lobby the AFL commission asap .If the AFL wont stop it the Saints and others have to do it through the media and have Medical Specialists and Drs etc on their side .Embarrass the AFL into doing something about it .Its an insane way of taking a player out and it could result in a player being paralysed or worse .

No hands on the back, no touching the arms and now you want no bumping a player in the air? Is it a contact sport or not?!

I saw Riewoldts legs deliberately taken from under him and he landed on his back and head and had NO TIME to protect himself .
Go to a hospital and view spinal injuries .I know what i am talking about .

Your right Sanecow, we need more investigation in regard to how dangerous this gutless tactic is.

Next time your down in Melb let me know and we could catch up with a few mates and you can jump in the air and we will take your legs out from under you. We can assess if you land safely or on your neck or head.

 Do you think there's another answer? Maybe one that involves winding back a couple of rules / interpretations? Think it through.

Whether or not the arm chop/hands in the back rules are rescinded has no bearing on the potential danger of the tunneling tactic. Tunneling could cause serious neck or spinal injuries, and must be outlawed for that reason.

For the record I support the arm chop rule, but not the hands in the back. A push in the back, however, should always be a free kick.

Look at 0:35-0:37 and 1:00-1:02 How can that be?!? Didn't Sydney just invent the tactic this weekend?! :thumbsd:

What's your point?

No tunneling in that incident. Charman took Roo out front on; should have been a free kick, and from memory Charman got a couple of weeks for it. If you mean Leppitsch then he attempted to punch the ball, there was body legal contact and from his point of view it's play on. Charman is the one who should have been penalised.

I guess you didn't watch 1:00 - 1:02 very carefully.

OK I had another look. Form the back angle Leppitsch pushed Roo in the back with his left hand; his right hand chopped Roo's arms trying to spoil the mark. (Roo should have received a free three times over!) At no point did he lift Roo's legs causing him to land horizontally ala Bolton. The incidents are not comparable IMO.

but lepitsch didnt take out his legs like what bolton did.

in the brisbane incident he would have landed badly but he would not have been horizontal like he was against sydney.

and since when did we blame you for starting it? the only thing we are "blaming" you for is saying that it isnt boltons fault

It might be worth remembering where you are posting Sanecow.

This is the link to the thread on the main board.

I can't for the life of me understand why the Sydney (and other) supporters are turning this issue around and blaming Nick Riewoldt. What's he supposed to do? He's in front and jumping for the mark. Bolton comes from behind and takes out his legs and apparently it's Riewoldt's fault for the way he goes for the ball.

I guess you didn't watch 1:00 - 1:02 very carefully.

Sanecow or Insaneswan? I can't believe I wasted my time watching 1:00 to 1:02 very carefully.

The whinging on the Swans forum is unbelievable - Barry should have got a free but Riewoldt is in the pocket of the umpires? He didn't even get a free for the Charman one, and got one measly free on the weekend.

So we wait until someone breaks their neck like Caracella? That incident was actioned by the AFL, but how about we get proactive and address it now for tunneling? The act is not new, and Bolton was doing what others have done before him.

I guess you didn't watch 1:00 - 1:02 very carefully.

That is nothing like what Bolton was doing to Riewoldt. Bolton can't beat Riewoldt 1 on 1 without infringing when Riewoldt is on a lead. Hence he has tried this pretty ordinary tactic. Accept it and move on and stay off our board.

Sanecow, are you seriously arguing that because the innocent, harmless little fluffy lambs that are Brisbane did this, even assuming that they're the same thing (which is doubtful), that that somehow legitimates what happened to Roo? Are you suggesting that seeing superstars, from any team, get seriously injured is something to risk for the sake of your team possibly getting the four points? Or are you suggesting that tunnelling somebody and possibly crippling them, is somehow to be equated to nudging somebody out of a marking contest by pressing into their back?

You're right mate, they're not the same thing - one's a petty freekick (no argument there), and the other is a spiteful, irresponsible and dangerous act that should be stamped out immediately.

To quote Die Hard, "Why don't you smell what you shovellin'!"
