In the lead up to the Southern University Games their has been much hype about the Turtles representing the University. Gruelling training sessions and much off field shenanigans have led the selectors to pick the following side representing Ballarat Uni from the 3rd to the 6th of July in the Southern University Games:
Marcus Emmett (Coach)
Luis Alvarez Harris (Team Manager)
Andrew Burchell (Fitness Supervisor)
Cameron Baker
Jason Beattie
Dallas Byars
Marcus Cummins
Peter Derbyshire
Andrew Ellis
Joel Martin
Nicholas Gouin
Matthew Harkin
Sam Harkin
Andrew Knowles
Mark MacGowan
Tom Mullane-Grant
Brendan Peace
Tyson Roberts
Chris Sanders
Hugh Saunders
Aaron Sawers
Ricky Sullivan
Stewart Sutherland
Jarrod Wade
Samuel Watson
Luke Johnstone
Jonathon Garrett
Brian Taylor

These Turtles will stop at nothing to win GOLD at a regional Games.
Go the Turtles

Possible Lineups according to Ablett.

B. Knowles Cummins Roberts
HB. Derbyshire Baker Knowles
C. McGowan Peace Harkin
HF. Gouin Sanders Sutherland
F. Byars Mullane-Grant Beattie
Fol. Saunders Emmett Ellis
Int. The rest

Hard to pick a team... Heaps of very likely types still sitting on the pine. Davidson, a Harkin, BT, Sullivan etc could also be starting.
Thoughts???

Ablett & Boys....

Have the turtles had ane legendary players play for them over the years?? Anyone of note?

Great to see the turtles are alive and swimming. Get on your backs.

Had 3 great Aussie games carnivals with the turtles in Melbourne, Perth & Ballarat.

Big names in our side were Ross Funcke, Danny Frith, Beardsley, Main all while at North Ballarat. Cape from Williamstown and now plays at Darley also made all australian one year while he was attending.

Off field Luke Young, Peter Hexter and Stuart Jackson were machines

Good luck lads

Whilst Gouin does like to roam the flank I think that as a general rule he likes to line up deep! This could perhaps release D.Byars onto a flank to cause some Carnage??

Good team provided by Ablett. Have recieved some inside information from those high up in the selection commitee and this is a more likely line-up

B: Knowles Cummins Derbyshire
HB:Baker Beattie S.Harkin
C: Sullivan Peace Sawyers
HF:Ellis Roberts Sutherland
F: Byars Mullane-Grant Alvarez-Harris
R: Saunders McGowan Davidson
Inter: The Rest

Some impact player to watch off the bench: Goiun, M.Harkin, and coach Emmett.

Coaching staff are worried about slight injury clouds over the likes of Sanders, Wade, Mullane-Grant, Baker, Cummins. Depth will provide a key with J.Martin, Metcalf and Horan called into the team.

Get on your backs.

Forget the stars!
I want to hear about the characters of the team, the ones who can't kick it over a jam tin, but everyone wants to give them a go..
Previous e.g's The Honourable Cr Ian "Piggy "Pigden, Lindsay " Rabbit Trap " Campbell, Morph, and who could forget Gouin.
Who is this cat attack bloke i keep hearing about?

interesting line up, although i'l be very surprised if gouin and emmett start from the pine.

should be interesting to see what people think the off field aspect of the team might line up like?

young cat attack demanded selection after attending training consistently and a couple of strerling off field performances, particularly the 'stache'. could be one of the surprise packets of the tournament IMO.

byars has been playing most of his club footy from the square and gouin mostly on the flank so i think its fine

Rumour has it the three last minute inclusions are there to lift the team on (but more so off) the field.

Chris 'Cat Attack' Metcalf is one to really shine in the character stakes. Put his hand when in early preparation for "Mo"vemeber and supports the beer keg (rather than a six pack) to go with it.

Joel Martin comes in for his first run in the Turtles on pure off-field form. Has only been to one training session so his off-field antics need to be at their best to impress the team.

Simon Horan has been MIA for 6 months and his inclusion is sure to spark the teams apparent lack of destructive form.

The usuals should be in good form and look for big efforts put in by the likes of Byars, Emmett and Sutherland

I think thekid should put out odds for off field dominance for next week.
I'll have 10 each way on Boodz.
There is no point putting money on the coach as he will no doubt be at his best!!!!

The University of Ballarat ‘Turtles’ Football Club is one of the most prominent societies within the student body. Since our inception in 1998, the ‘Turtles’ have grown considerably, which is reflected in our membership base of over 200 students along with a large number of followers within and outside of the University of Ballarat. Popularity is one thing, but alongside that goes a short, but very proud playing history. The ‘Turtles’ have qualified for the Australian University Games each year thus far, earning a fourth placing in 2000, a bronze medal in 2002 and silver medals in 2003. Not bad given the size of the University compared to others.

Throughout the year the ‘Turtles’ train hard on Wednesday nights motivated to chase our dream of a gold medal. It is at the Australian University Games where the rewards of this hard training will come to fruition. We also like to think of ourselves as a family, and as such, like to come together as much as possible in a social environment to create a tight knit playing group. Many lifelong friendships have been forged whilst wearing the green. I know many players think of the Turtles as their own club, before the club they play their saturday football for.

Maybe we can get some stories from their funniest turtles moment, on or off the field, or even profile some of the past turtles who mightve moved on now, whose legacy remains

Mate, get ready for a massive week!! The Ballarat Uni Bumpers are looking the goods with a full squad led by the infamous Cameron Byrne! But i guess someone on this thread may be able to tell you more about the team, gault? Guess the best place to go will be at 21 Arms because that is where all the other Unis will be.

:DKeep it quiet, but I think the turtle management have enlisted an actual artist to draft up a few AUG jumper designs..
Gouin don't crack it.. Your designs have been great over the years..:D

Would have to say my favourite moment would be the 10c pots after winning silver in bendigo one year... Enough said.

Been to many turtles functions in the past, and am fully aware that the social side in more important than the footy side, BUT
who are the main players in this team, and who do they play for on a saturday?

Was at the final training session last night and the team looked prime for a real good showing next week. Gold could be definately on the cards, if so maybe a price drop could be arranged. 5c pots???

the side has a balance of good footy players and good off field players:thumbsu:
the ones to watch are Peace plays at redan genius, Mullane-Grant plays for Ballan absolute freak around the goals, Ellis from pimp hardnut in the centre and rest are all good players and Pedge back from otway is the back man in the comp.....

What are the living arrangements like seeing its in Ballarat this year? Rumour is they won't be gelled enough to be successful.. Is there any chance of Ellis rooming with Gouin so he can provide action shots of Gouin wippersnippering like last year?
