So gc play Essendon in the vfl and afl today up in qld. So how is the picture quality of the vfl game on Fox not as good and laggy, I’m assuming they’d be using the same cameras

They also had nothing on the scoreboard or broadcast indicating it was VFL. Was very confused for a few minutes why there was a game at 12pm.

May be a different production altogether - have seen this with rugby union (Shute Shield on Stan/9Gem/9Now but lower grades and Colts are on NSW Rugby TV/Sideline Sport) and league (NSWRLTV/BarTV and Kayo have broadcast the same games with completely different feeds).

Depends on rights situations and the like - broadcast cameras and lenses are normally about or over 10x the cost of a typical "professional" camcorder and require much more infrastructure.

What he is basically saying is the cameras are there already for the AFL game surely they would just use the same ones for the VFL! If not all of the cameras, at least some of this ‘infrastructure’

I get that but it's about costs and needs. You can get away with filming state- and local-level sport with much less (and cheaper) equipment than you can for TV - it wouldn't make sense for the VFL (or their broadcaster) to pay overs for the AFL's production team (probably NEP) to shoot that game. Don't forget people have to get paid for their work and the people doing the AFL-level stuff will be on a much higher rate than the VFL stuff.

JAM TV does the VFL out of their facility in Docklands. AFL is done out of NEP's hub in South Melbourne. None of the equipment is interchangeable or able to be shared. Totally separate productions.

In theory, the AFL/NEP on-site team could also produce the VFL feed (or at least the main mix bus) and send JAM the clean feed. If money and resourcing wasn't an issue, that would be ideal and is, in theory, no different to NEP sending 7 or Fox their feed.

Technically yes but it's not practical, unless the same commentary and production team did both games. How does the AFL crew and commentators prepare if the VFL team are using all their gear?

Exactly my point - resourcing is the big issue here. Technically possible but only if you ignore all the other factors
