Does anybody else think that we will get really crappy free to air coverage of the AFL in 2001.

Is the Ansett Cup just a forerunner to what will happen during the Home and Away.

An example: This week Channel 7 are only televising 2 games of the first round of the Ansett Cup. StKilda v Collingwood and Port Adelaide v Essendon, aren't there 12 other clubs that would like at least some coverage of their side in action - thank god for K-Rock.

StKilda v Collingwood is the match that surprises me the most. At the same time you have West Coast v North in PERTH and Geelong v Sydney in DARWIN, Anyone who wants to go to StKilda v Collingwood can, can supporters of the others teams do that? It would be a stretch.

Tomorrow, I can understand, as Essendon supporters can't ALL get to Adelaide.

Can you believe it, First round of the Ansett Cup, No footy for more than 6 months and only 1/4 of the sides actually playing get coverage.

Yes I realise they have golf commitments this weekend, but surely a delayed telecast of tonights matches or a replay of highlights at 11pm on Sunday wouldn't be that hard to put together.

Every other match is being ignored. Is this a per-curser to 2001. Lets hope not.

Especially as the first round is practically an elimination if your team loses. the winner of each group will be a winner from round 1. In rounds 2 and 3 they can pick the games which will 'decide' the winner in each group. The rest of the games are really 'practice games' for the temas involved

I remember hearing last year that the coverage of the pre season comp this year would be reduced. Last year as I remember they televised most games and some people believed that they had been overloaded with footy. So channel seven have done this. It sucks. Even more so this year this year with the longer break. I never felt this way as there is no such thing as too much footy.

I am glad that Collingwood has been picked for the viewing tonight being a Collingwood supporter but can understand other fans also wanting to see their sides in action.

I am led to believe that essendon will get all of their games live. How is this fair to the other clubs. Essendon are just about certain to win all of them

Channel 7 will take every single cost cutting measure they can find this footy season.
They have no goodwill concerns, us footy fans are a captive market for them this year, and 2002 they just aint concerned with, now!
As an aside, I phoned Foxtel to try and find out arrangements re costs and amounts of footy, but they are saying very little at this stage, makes you think the extra cost of the AFL footy will be high for subscribers.

Why would Channel seven have any incentive to keep their viewers happy? In fact, they have more of an incentive to keep us unhappy such that we lose interest in the sport and don't bother to watch it as of next year when it's on Channel 9.

Here's to a year of AFL on the radio....

PS. You don't have to agree, but I think it is moronic that Collingwood vs Saints is televised here in Brisbane, while NM vs WCE is not. Surely the latter would be a far more exciting game?
