$even will have the Ashes cricket next year. Tests start at 8pm AEST time, One Dayers start an hour earlier. $even is committed to showing it live. Hmmmmmmmmm what about their AFL coverage? One to ponder about.

Another thing to ponder about - some reckon that Nein will get some AFL action in 2002, today Nein have announced that they have got the rights to the Soccer World Cup in 2002 (along with Fox Sports) and they will be showing games live into the 8pm-12pm AEST time frame. More AFL coverage going to be crunched?

World Cup on Nein - SAVE LES MURRAY!!!!!

Commercial TV is ruining sporting events...SBS's coverage will be better than channel nine can do. SBS is also devoted to soccer, how many soccer matches have been shown on nine before. Nine is just greedy if you ask me!

If $even, (as you as so aptly put it Flipper) have the rights to the cricket, I still reckon AFL would get the preference, in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.

I think that you will probably see a live game every friday night even when the cricket is on, and then cross over to it after the lunch interval or something along those lines.

On Saturday night, Seven would still show the best game of the evening on TV before the cricket.

Seven know what rates in winter, and with the length of cricket matches wouldn't have a problem showing both.

7 having the Ashes series in 2001 is old old OLD news - probably since 1998 that has been known.

Sandy Landy- love the name!

Interesting to see who Channel nine get for their coverage of the world cup. Paul Wade, Williams & co have signed contracts (defected) to seven b/c of the networks 10 year soccer rights win. Andie Paschalides to to make a couple of cameo appearances from fox?? If not, i wish Richie Benaud, bill Lawry etc. the best of luck calling the soccer (coz they sure are going to need it).
SBS's fantastic 10 hour coverage a day will never be forgotten

And I have to agree with flipper, SAVE LES MURRAY (the greatest man to have ever lived

).

I'm sure that the Nine/Fox Sports joint coverage will use British commentators as SBS have done for years (Martin Tyler etc) and if (a big if) Australia qualify they'll use an Australian commentator in those games (god knows who). It's the hosting that is a worry for Nine. Who the hell is there unless they poach Les from SBS of Andy P from Fox - Eddie no doubt will put his hand up for the job.

SAVE LES MURRAY!!!!!!
