So it's confirmed that Optus Sport accounts must be activated.

Interesting that Optus hasn't released the amount of new subscriptions in the last quarter that have activated a PL account. They clearly have that information readily available.

gonna have to bite the bullet and sign up with optus.

my vodafone contract has expired and optus have a 12 month contract and it's 45 bucks pm, 12 gb of data and free spotify streaming. even if i got the premier league add on im still better off.

never changed a phone provider before, is it just as simple as signing up and they do the legwork for me?

Optus Accused Of Hurting Image Of UK Premier League

Optus has been accused of hurting the image of the UK Premier League, with coverage of the preeminent League and clubs like Liverpool and Manchester United, getting less media attention than ever before, they have also been accused of not delivering "Premium Coverage".
While the League was a winner after Optus shelled $189M over three years a price that Foxtel refused to pay Clubs and interest in the League are waning in Australia because fans don't want to switch to Optus who saw earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation dropped 10.3 per cent to $633m even though mobile subscribers grew according to their latest financials.

The Australian newspaper recently reported that the League is suffering from sharply reduced press coverage and a lower profile in Australia since Optus swooped on rights to the football competition.

Press items in November plunged 29 per cent compared to a year ago when the EPL was broadcast on sports programming broadcaster Fox Sports, according to an analysis by research firm iSentia's media monitoring service.
While the new deal helped swell the EPL's coffers, with Optus agreeing to pay a record $189 million over three years, the arrangement is hurting the image of the sport's top clubs.

Manchester United saw Australian press coverage reverse 10.1 per cent, dealing a blow to efforts to push the club's brand in the local market.

Recently Alcatel cut a deal with Liverpool that allows them to market to the large Liverpool fan base in Australia. The Australian said that despite criticism Optus has limited its EPL coverage to its own customers, the telco is currently pursuing broadcast rights for the domestic A-League and a number of Socceroos matches.

It comes after the EPL recently broke its silence over Optus's beleaguered coverage amid mounting doubts over the telco's technical capacity to provide a premium service.

Top clubs like Liverpool and Chelsea have invested enormous amounts of money growing their fan bases in Australia.

Despite criticism Optus has limited its EPL coverage to its own customers, the telco is pursuing broadcast rights for the domestic A-League and a number of Socceroos matches. It comes after the EPL recently broke its silence over Optus's beleaguered coverage amid mounting doubts over the telco's technical capacity to provide a premium service.

A spokesman for the EPL issued a statement to The Australian that suggested executives are watching the situation closely. "Optus is working very hard to provide the best possible service for fans in Australia," he said.

No it isn't.

I received a new phone with Optus last week and they sent me a message to say it was already set up. Just needed to provide an email.

It's plan dependent. Due to the plan I'm on, I get it for free.

You still need to login to the Optus Sport website / app.

Optus would obviously have the figures for how many new mobile plan customers are actively using the Optus Sport website / app.

Why they haven't released those figures is anyone's guess.

Well yes, how else would it be watched? My point was I didn't have to sign up. They sent me a text to tell me I was already included in it.

Because $85 is below the threshold from memory. I think it was for plans $90 +. Could be wrong on the figure but certain plans it was included for free in.
Have you seen any Fetch PL viewing figures yet? I can't seem to find them anywhere. Would be a good gauge of how successful PL has been with Optus having exact viewing figures with Fetch being a digital platform.

It's $85 in calls. If he has a handset repayment in his $85 plan (i.e. $65 + $20), it doesn't reach qualification.

Mine was included for free in my plan, still had to go to the website and put in my phone number so that I could make an account and activate it.

Mine was $85 (with a $20 credit for every month for the next 2 years) per month, no handset repayments. It could be that they just forget to send through the email/text hence why I had to do it manually.
