I just swapped to Fibre internet for TPG and all the streams fly, 8 mb download speed is apparently average in the world yet it's the fastest in Australia. Our internet sucks

Yep. Absolutely ridiculous idea to have streaming as the primary delivery platform for EPL telecasts.

Is anyone using Foxtel play? Can you load stuff that isn't live, such as replays on demand?

I am considering it for the PC. I want it for my Apple TV but there's no way i'm buying the Telstra TV box and adding another remote to the collection. I am sure WC must think its unfair for them to only offer it with Telstra TV but not on Apple or Chromecasts.

With Foxtel Play, you get access to Foxtel GO which has replays on demand.

Mr White said the telco has no plans on reselling rights to Fox Sports to broaden the EPL’s audience and that the service would not be sold to customers who do not have a service subscription with Optus.

Further interesting notes:

The No 2 telco has revealed that it is months away from unveiling a new content rights acquisition that it will pitch to “family audiences” even though the EPL deal hurt the telco’s profitability.

“We will certainly in the coming months be talking about some additional exclusive content we will be adding to the service which will be non-sport related,” Optus head of Consumer Marketing Ben White told The Australian. “We can’t reveal now but we are very well progressed on a number of things.

“There are lots and lots of people in Australia who love sport, but equally there are some who have other interests as well and we think it’s important to appeal to a broad base.”

Thats why i jumped to the Dark Side and got a Optus subscription so i can watch the Everton Games.I was hoping they would sell games to Foxtel but that wont happen. So the next 3 years we are stuck with what we have.

You can either use a friend's Optus account or buy an overseas subscription with a VPN. Plenty of options for those not wanting an Optus mobile acct.

For me, it's a little strange that Optus wouldn't explore the idea of reselling at least a few games per week to another telecaster. They would surely score a massive profit from someone like Foxtel who would be desperate to get Premier League football back on their network. Offering a paid subscription for non-Optus customers to stream/watch the games would again turn a large profit without them having to develop or expand any new technologies.

Surely 'Profits' and 'Increased customer base' are two of the golden objectives of a business?

The profits wouldn't be going to Foxtel per se. Optus would still collect all subscribtion revenue from Optus channels being broadcast on Foxtel. They would just need to pay a small fee to use Foxtel's infrastructure.

It's all the more baffling they don't do it because Optus also resells Foxtel itself.

Yeah that was my point exactly. I think I didn't explain myself properly...

Head scratching indeed:huh:

I think Optus want to keep it on their thing so it's exclusive to them etc.
I suppose that fair enough. I'm sure there would be countless people who would be more than happy to pay 40-50 bucks a month just to stream their coverage on their computers, etc. though, I know I would
