The smartest thing for Optus to would be to on sell the rights (is allowed in the terms of the contract is signed). People will just stream it in the net through other devices, or watch the new offering on BeIN sports. Losing EPL sucks, but the addition of Serie A, La Ligue, French League, Scottish Premiership, Champions League, Europa, European Cup and European Rugby is good compensation.

Stop making shit up. The average review score for Optus Fetch is 1.9 out of 5 on product reviews.com.au.

It's a rubbish product.
Oh no you didn't just use them as a reference for your argument lol. Thought I would entertain you and check it out, the first 10 reviews complained about the lack of quality movies that are supplied free with the product each month, another few complained how they got it free with the IP and don't use it, but most complained about optus and never mentioned the box lol. Yea a couple out of 30 reviews did have problems with it but seeing there are hundreds of thousands of these out there I don't think I will take the measly handful of reviews you referenced as valid argument to not get one. Maybe at least read the reviews before using them as the main reference to an argument.

glory be, today was a long read to get to this point. First of all, WC, if you're looking on review sites, take it with a grain of salt...I mean Foxtel...http://www.productreview.com.au/p/foxtel.html ;)

As for NZ...http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=11615939

Next up. Fetch. Here is a sample I recorded a week back. Please note tho, it's filmed off a iPhone and doesn't truly do the picture justice. Plus Fetch have been testing HD sports channel feeds and expect them by next season.

Lastly, for me it looks like this according to the info released today: My brother is on an Optus My Plan Plus $80 mobile plan. I will pay him $15 for EPL and $5 for the Fetch Mini which will get me HD on my TV...

I’m thinking that (a) a lot of people are locked into 24 month broadband plans anyway, and can’t get out of them without paying them out… and/or (b) how many people have their phone through work these days?? A lot, and it’s growing. Mobile contact is increasingly expected from many jobs.

And you don’t choose your provider, your company does – and they simply base that on the best largest-scale business plans they can get (I believe Telstra dominate this market but am not sure). Your employer isn’t going to change providers for you to watch the soccer!

So I’m expected to pay $50 a month for another phone that will sit in a drawer and never get used, just so I can pay a further $20 a month to watch EPL in SD on my huge TV over slow shitty broadband?

What in god’s name makes them think this will work?

Death to Optus. Stick fat football fans and send a message.

I’ll be contacting the ACCC about a review of this too – anybody can make a complaint / ask for clarification on a product re anti-competitive behaviour.

I'm all for competition in a market Foxtel has dominated for years, but this a blatant attempt to ransom the EPL off in order to get new customers to change from their current service providers.

Congrats to those already with Optus, this must somewhat validate your choice to pay for shitty internet.

Optus you can gagf.

Agreed, as mentioned in that AFR review posted a few pages back, to get Foxtel you don't need to break out of other contracts to get it, where as the Optus model you are forced too. So short sighted from Optus. People will resent the inconvenience.

So am I right in saying that Fetch TV is just internet streaming, via a box, broadcasted through your television? Akin to the ill-fated T Box of a few years ago? I have no clue about it so just asking.

If so, I reckon my internet would just about explode if I tried to stream the Prem and use my laptop at the same time.

I never thought this situation of Foxtel losing the rights would end up with me and many others heaping praise on Foxtel – but they look like saints right now compared to Optus.

Wonder if Optus will cover customers cancellation fees if they are to move from Telstra mobile or internet plans across to them? After all this is what they're banking on happening. Do they expect the customer to pay that and then pay them?
They won't cover cancellation fees and they are banking on those moving who aren't on contract moving or those who are with them on prepaid moving to postpaid and contracting for two years

Oh so they're only counting on a few people moving over to watch a sport that plays live from around 11pm to 5am?

I'd hate to have shares in Singtel if that's how they're trying to make their move back into sport

Have said for years, the Fox Sports package is a great offer. What you get for $50 - $70 a month is world leading. So many sports, the coverage is very good and it's ultra reliable.

All their other crap (movies docos dramas etc) is garbage, but for sport it cannot be beat.

Gotta agree with a lot of the comments in here.

The prices released today are extremely exorbitant, and the conditions required are incredibly restricted.

Foxtel, despite losing the EPL, haven't come out of this too bad at the end of it all.

Why can’t I subscribe to EPL on my Optus prepaid plan?
At launch, we’ve made a call to add EPL subscriptions with home broadband (fixed) and postpaid mobile/mobile broadband plans only. However, we’ll continue to review customer demand to decide which plans are eligible for an EPL subscription in the future.
