*sigh*

Trust Australia to **** this up. For years we've looked at the American models and hoped that internet streaming would be the key to breaking Foxtel's monopoly. But in Australia this is what we come up with?

I quite liked a quote from a Fin Review article: "we can't lure you across by quality of service, price or customer service, so we have kidnapped a loved one ... if you want to see them again cough up."

Only 10 days til the 3 beIN channels I guess.

I really hope this goes tits up in a hurry, cos I can take or leave the EPL given what beIN will be offering - but looking forward I'm worried about the World Cup games that they have the rights to. Surely they aren't going to expect people to go onto 24 month contracts for a 1-month tournament?

Say what? I've suggested completely the opposite. You have to have a broadband or mobile contract to access EPL on Optus Pay TV.
FFS that's what started this whole thing as it seemed as if you were contradicting that. Why is this so difficult to comprehend.

Cable is a very common description for Internet that is delivered by cable. Cable TV is an Americanism. Yet you waste a whole page banging on about it.

You are obviously on the internet. Use it.

Keep telling yourself that, Optus. This is nothing short of disastrous for both company and consumer. I have no idea how they thought this plan would be popular or wise.

When it all goes to shit (or, more so than it already is) how are they going to convince Foxtel, SBS or another FTA network to jump into bed with a company that goofed so tremendously? No-one's going to align themselves with a company like that, not for the price Optus will ask.

Chalk this up as a (rather sizeable) financial loss and move on. Optus won't go near the next contract auction.
Let's see. Move from my very favourable ISP deal for the privilege to stream legally on an inferior network and deal.

or...

Stream illegally for free but keep super high speed cable which is $4 more expensive than the deal they want you to take up to get EPL for free.

Come on mate I was replying to someone else. It wasn't me that used the word "cable" and it seems everyone but you interpreted it as meaning internet. Time to move on now lad.

What is your problem champ? WC2022 asked me to point out where the term was used so I did. I've never referred to the internet as 'cable'. When someone asks me what channel GoT is on, I don't say it's on Satellite TV, I say it's on 'cable'.

Clearly. Which is why half a dozen posts ago I explained this to you and said we could move on but you continued to play dumb. But good for you for finally catching up.

I know what cable internet is. Funnily enough that link is to 'home broadband'. Broadband, internet, the net, etc. are all terms I use to describe an internet connection. Cable has always equated to Pay TV.

It's not worth continuing with, was just making the point it seemed like you were suggesting having your Pay TV with Optus would allow you to get EPL. That's not the case. Play on.

My problem is that a lot of people use internet forums to ask questions they could just as quickly answer by using the internet. That's a bit annoying, but the fact you have repeatedly asked questions and clarifications over and over on an extremely simple question that you have had answered about 15 different ways now - that's lazy or you're just looking to fill this thread with guff.

What on Earth are you on about? WC answered a question from someone asking about their cable plan. He said that would give them EPL. I asked him to clarify. There's no google search for "What does WC mean when he says yes to someone asking about their cable plan on BF". When he clarified, and after a post or two of me expressing surprise and explaining I've always defined cable as Pay TV, I explained the confusion and suggested people move on. It's you and WC who have continued this farce of a discussion and somehow tried to spin it back on me for whatever reason you have.

Which I'm enjoying. Might find a championship team to follow a bit closer (not Hull, wouldn't want to steal your thunder :p). Being able to record UCL shall be good.

As for EPL, either Spurs need to broadcast games like Liverpool do (that is right isn't it jod23?) or I'm finding a stream somewhere.
What do you mean mate?

Do you mean how Liverpool has it's own TV channel. LFCTV? Do Spurs have their own channel?

Either way I stream games online but I dont think it has anything to with Liverpool broadcasting them. Obviously Sky broadcasts them and I just watch those Sky streams over the internet.

LFCTV dont show Liverpool games live. They show them 24 hours later. They cant because they dont have the rights to show them live I believe.

Im i waffling and completely off base or am i helping? Haha. Im not really sure what you asked?

If you insist on a run-down:
Hang on. Back up here. So people could just switch their cable to Optus, carry on getting Foxtel, and get EPL for free?

I brought this up a few pages back and got told I was an idiot and you needed a phone or internet plan with Optus.
You had been told previously. Now you are confused. You could've just looked it up. Just as you could've done at all of these points:
I read cable as cable, that being Pay TV.
Then there's the post you refer to where you quoted someone else. And then you start up again:
Who uses cable as a term for internet? Is that an Americanism? I've genuinely never heard it used as synonymous.
I know what cable internet is. Funnily enough that link is to 'home broadband'. Broadband, internet, the net, etc. are all terms I use to describe an internet connection. Cable has always equated to Pay TV.

Seriously? That's all I refer to it as. What do you call it?

My point was that you had been told and that info is available elsewhere online.

My sincerest apologies to SM for answering a post by another forum user about "cable" internet and leading him to believe I was claiming you could watch EPL simply by signing up to Optus TV. The stress over the whole issue must have been enormous.

Moving on....

Not really helping. Just confirming that option is dead in the water on that idea. dream crusher!!!!

No they don't show games at all. They have a text commentary which is like totally not adequate :(

Might need to investigate PremierLeague pass and break out my VPN again. **** you Optus.

You are being so pedantic here it's honestly quite pathetic. My last post on this ridiculous topic. WC responded to someone basically saying "Yes if you're paying $90 for cable with Optus you get EPL for free". I quoted this looking for clarification, as previously WC had said only internet and phone packages got it free. That's my first post. Then I explained I read cable as meaning PayTV, as that's what I've always read cable as. WC responded saying he meant internet, which is why I said "So not cable". Then when others responded, I expressed genuine confusion as, again, I've always read cable as meaning Pay TV. I then explained my confusion and suggested there was nothing more to be said.

I then "started up again" in response to others continuing the discussion. Apologies for responding to direct posts on a discussion board. In future I'll keep in mind I should run all my responses past you.

Is that a joke? The thread is 73 pages long. A lot of that is due to people asking questions the internet can answer far more quickly. He meant Cable internet. You were wrong about how people use the term cable. If you used the Internet you would see you only get PL with an Optus mobile or internet deal worth $85 or more. As you have been told multiple times.

In the UK the club channels only live games are U21s and reserves games and that sort of thing. Anything that means something is on Sky, BT, etc.

The idea here Foxtel will able to get them to show games on a same day delay is fanciful. Optus' contract would expressly forbid such a thing.

Im just gonna have to stream games and hope for the best. I stream all the League Cup, FA Cup and Europa League games Liverpool have had in recent years anyways because of stupid BeIn stealing all the rights. So now ill just have to stream PL games too.

It sucks cos the quality isnt great and i live in fear and anger at the streams stopping and starting and dropping out.

Next season is gonna suck. I wouldnt even care if I had mega fast amazeballs internet but this is Australia so...
