Will be interesting to see the growth of the Bundesliga in Australia over the next 5 years because of this + BeIN.

Will be big I reckon.

Definitely keeping Foxtel now, can handle watching games live on streams (which I imagine will be appearing in droves this coming season) if I can rewatch and record it in HD the next day.

As for Optus live EPL, will be looking for ways to get it on the sly through sharing passwords with mates etc. **** giving them my money.

Bein sports was having me leaning towards foxtel with a view of live streaming Liverpool games but this announcement means I will definitely keep foxtel.
Optus could come up with a new offer to counter the one from foxtel. Watch this space

Damn you Foxtel. After getting my rate reduced by half recently due to lost EPL they told me, just wait, something is coming, you might want to just wait and see. MUTV, all the games (on delay is fine). Looks like I am keeping it, now to negotiate staying at the same reduced price.

I'm absolutely fine with this.
A delayed Arsenal match each week + all the other big clubs matches.
Live would be cool, but i've been known for falling asleep before kick off at 4am before anyway... :p
Bein Sports with heaps of soccer from all around the World plus the A-League.
Then you add Fox Footy as well, the sports package is great value over streaming EPL through Optus.
I was never enough of a EPL fanatic to make the switch anyway.

Pretty hilarious when Foxtel tried to say that losing the EPL was no big deal and have since added 6 football channels with a further 3 to come next year :D

Pretty impressed with their offering though and Optus can go and get stuffed. Our internet connection sucks so it isn't an option.

My wife and I have our mobiles bundled with internet at home with Optus. Pretty sure this means that we can get the Optus deal for nothing.

If it is just streaming and our Netflix experience is any indication, watching live sport will be a joke. If I have to pay 1 extra cent to get a game, I won't do it out of principle. It is an easier decision for me as I don't follow an EPL side and it is not likely that Doncaster will be there anytime soon :(. I do consider myself a genuine fan of the game and watch a few games a week, but will happily forego this to just to say **** you Optus.

I am tempted to leave Optus once our current contract expires despite being a customer since the 90s when I got my first mobile phone just to express my disgust at their bullying tactics.

I'm really happy this doesn't seem to going to plan for Optus. Its terrible for consumers if internet providers think they can buy the rights to sports and hold fans of that sport to ransom. What happens if another provider purchases the rights to another sporting league and implements the same model as Optus? Imagine if you're a fan of the EPL and that other league and there is no legitimate way you can watch both leagues without resorting to online streams. That's why I'm surprised that the ACCC doesn't have a problem with the precedent Optus is setting.

Luckily the anti-siphoning list generally protects the most watched sports in Australia I guess.

Just looking at the ACCC website it seems they get past the exclusive dealing law because they arent forcing you to a 3rd party even though they are forcing you to buy their unrelated and unnecessary products.

It will be interesting to see where the line is though, I mean can the NAB buy the AFL rights and only show it to people who have a mortgage with them ? (No having an account wont get you access).

If by some miracle Optus make this work its going to be a worry with what happens to sports right down the line.

Something is better than nothing I suppose.

I watch probably 50% of the games on replay anyway (well this season anyway), so that probably doesn't really effect me. Just have to stay away from social media, apps, etc..etc.. so I don't know the results.

Be honest, how many people watch the EPL replays when Fox shows them? I just really don't think this will have much impact. 12 hours is too much. 8 hours, yeah maybe.
People are overestimating their willingness to wait. Avoiding the internet or the news for 12 hours will get annoying fast. For late Saturday games in summer who's really going to avoid all the scores (you can't avoid just one score) until 4.30pm on Sundays?

Pretty happy with Foxtel and how they've recovered after the loss of the EPL to Optus.

They have gained Bein for free which includes other leagues (Thankfully I can watch the Championship :p ) whilst having the coverage in time for Euro's!!!
Even though the coverage is delayed , they have gained the major teams channels.
