I assumed it was a one-off. Will have to have another look.

There was a 2+2 thread about it - I got the impression it was a one-off, maybe a 2-part series at most.

He falls into the classic situation of getting a big stack, and then punting it all away.

I loved it when his nephew arced up and got physical ... and then got taken down. LOL
And i saw that "Breezy" took down a heads up tourney late last year at some event for about 40K IIRC

Poker Night on Wall Street
March 15, 17, 22 or 24: Bloomberg TV, channel 650
"Top-ranked investors and hedge fund managers compete in a winner-takes-all charity poker tournament. Hosted by Trish Regan at the Borgata in Atlantic City.
Maybe the schedule has changed, now only seems to be on 22nd and 24th.

On Bloomberg this Saturday @ 3pm, The Player: Secrets of a Vegas Whale.

Secrets of the Vegas whale is an interesting watch, the actual topic is much more interesting

Lots of debate about whether this guy was able to achieve what he said he could achieve and if he was actually cheating

He got absurd kick backs for gambling big and apparently structured them in a way that made the game +ev for him without the casino execs being able to work it out. There is debate about whether he was also able to gain an extra edge by "freerolling" his decisions because he asked for different signals to hit stand and surrender

He would often signal a surrender but because of the strange hand signal the dealer would often think it was a stand and deal their card, he would get the freeroll if they bricked out or he could argue he surrendered if he lost

A lot of people just think he was able to get a look at the dealers holecards through slack dealing though, while the rest of his edge came from the structure of the game

The basic setup was, he got a 20% rebate on losses that was paid out at every 500k loss. So in theory if he makes 1 500k bet, its +ev for him. If he makes 100 5k bets its not +ev for him, so there was a balancing act between the amount of losses he would incur before being paid and the size of the bets he needed to make to make it +ev for him

Its a good watch though, he doesnt really go into how he beat them, its just a story of his escapades and a general doco on how the casinos struggled through the GFC

Young Gamblers on insight on SBS

They've got a local poker player, a young kid from Bangladesh and the guy from the stop gambling ads on

The Bangladesh kid is near making this unwatchable, can't speak a fluent sentence and really struggling to get his point across. He can't articulate whether he's down or up in poker, just talks about a big win and reinvesting etc

I missed what the poker player said but he stumbled on the end where he talked about winning 30k in 8 months and the host pointed out that it's not really a lot of money for an annual salary and he just said oh yeah but I'll move up in stakes and win about 150k, good luck bud

But yeah this kid is making it so hard to watch, can't spit out a sentence

I record Insight to Foxtel IQ each week, will check it out later this week. I'm confident he'll tilt me too.

just watched the Insight episode. listed to the banger kid for a bit, then fast forwarded through his long-winded spiel.

to others, the episode is not worth watching.

Insight did an episode on Online Gambling back in 2011.

30 for 30: Broke. It's about young guys making lots of money, then blowing it. About sports players but I saw it mentioned on a 2p2 thread, thought it would be an interesting watch. Just as applicable to poker players.

Broke is one of the best installments in the 30 for 30 series.

Massive tangent, but my best 30 for 30 eps in no particular order

Broke
Two Escobars
Once were brothers (the Vlade Divac one)
Without Bias (Len Bias coke overdose)
Pony Express (SMU football)
Elway to Marino (NFL draft 83 I think)

Reality is they are all really good and worth watching at least once. (Even the Jimmy Connors one because he comes across as an A+ unlikeable tool and its good to see him get whipped by Courier at the end).

Too many to mention, but agree with a lot of those. Small Potatoes (about the USFL) was excellent.

One could argue that Stu Ungar would make a great subject for one.

Agree with all of those but also add Roll Tide / War Eagle as one of the best and I really enjoyed the Bo Jackson one - guy is just a freak of an athlete.

Oh, another one was the guy who bought the New York Islanders with essentially zero money.

That was a ridiculous story.

I'm sure we've all seen it, but one of my favourite hands is the last one of the 2009 WSOP. Eastgate's poker face, the way the hand played out, and especially, what Eastgate does at showdown. Takes the time to stack some chips, doesn't smile, no expression at all, what we used to expect from ice cool Swedish tennis players in the 70s and 80s!

Such a cold turn.

So perfect that he had position too.

I prob had/have a man crush on Eastgate, here is another awesome hand, and we were all happy with the result.

Just love Eastgate's presence. Dennis Phillip's table talk is ridiculous.

LATB this week, just watch this one hand from a 5/5 game. Video should start 2h26m58s.

NB: if I embed the link here, embedded video starts at 0:00:00.

EDIT: LATB pulls down their videos after a week or so.

Hand seems very boring at the start, but the payoff at the end is soooooo worth it.
