I prefer the traditional 2:30pm start time for the Grand Final, but the AFL seems all but certain to test either a twilight or night grand final in 2020.

If the decision is between these two start times, which would you prefer?

The Twilight slot I've placed a general late afternoon start time, the Night Grand Final option is the common night game starting times.

Neither but given this season is a glorified AFLX comp where the teams don't really care what happens pick any time you want, then next year when the proper football season starts again back to 2pm on a Saturday.

Twilight/early night grand final would be ideal.

As many have said, if they had lights back when 1897 they would have been playing it since day dot.

We are supposedly the most popular sport in the country yet the Rugby League GF and State of Origin smash us in the ratings.

Cheeky one here, but gets a tad stronger every day. Game might not be at the MCG.

How about the afternoon option in Perth, pumped into the eastern seaboard for an evening audience ?.
Could do the same with Perth twilight game/ evening TV broadcast to the east.

Guess it depends whether the AFL was looking for a different spectacle at the match event, or just a different time on TV.

I’m all for it, I wish the GF was rotated through cities every year, reckon it’d help with the ‘super bowl atmosphere’ the AFL desperately craves for the GF

They actually had lights in 1879! Two matches were played under lights at the MCG.VFA Teams were not involved.

The First Game -5th August 1879
The first match was between two obscure teams, East Melbourne Artillery and Collingwood Rifles. The teams were linked to lieutenant Draper of Collingwood, who was in charge of the electricity.

If in Brsbane or Adelaide = twilight/night. If in Perth, afternoon/twilight. Because of daylight saving there will be more daylight in October.
