The point is that these "free speech" types only stick to that stance when it is speech they agree with.

When it is speech that triggers them they become as snowflakey as anyone.

The point is unless you are willing to allow people to say horrible things, you arent in favour of free speech.

And if you cant handle people saying horrible things, youre a snowflake.

There was a time when liberal thinking people believed in things like free speech. The US even chose it as their 1st amendment. But these days people tend to need censorship because they are scared of anything they dont like.

LWNJ and RWNJ (ie all the ones who want censorship) share this common belief.

Haven’t seen anyone complaining about Crow’s video earlier. It’s pretty revolting. But no one seems triggered. Strange.

Musk will almost certainly adhere to some form of censorship in his newly taken over Twitter though - as noted, the ISIS Twitter page will almost certainly remain banned.

The reality is when the owners of Twitter or whichever other social media platform have full control, their censorship and conditions are going to be entirely arbitrary. Musk has previously hinted he’ll have the law govern which tweets get censored etc, but that ignores the extremely obvious point that different countries have different laws, and Twitter is available globally.

So unless there’s some kind of democratic say over the administration of these social media giants (which there probably should be given their importance in modern society), we’re really just celebrating or arguing over which wealthy businessman gets to arbitrarily set our conditions of use. Instead, as with everything else, we can just notch up another point of disagreement in the silly and inconsequential culture wars.
