Don't understand why they keep playing Bannistar, Carrazzo he just can't kick, Hadley great recruiting and Scotland over rated every time he gets the ball he kicks it to the opposition. This week was the perfect opportunity to play O Hailpin at CHB and play Waite at CHF with Kruezer, Fisher, Betts, Fevola and Edwards really go on the attack. Maybe Carlton are still tanking and want another PP.

when jr wanted to quit at the end of 2005 to join port power everyone was crying. what happened. alot of supporters are just bagging him constantly now. i hope this dosent happen to juddy.

How JR gets a game before Bentick amazes me. AB was top 5 last year for tackles and when we need hardness the most, Selection Panel is still choosing this little girl.

Because Bentick only goes 1 way and gets found out for pace and accountability

Doesn't mean they'll line up there. Can we make a sticky so I don't have to repeat this every week!

Can we make a sticky that says I know this. Thanks for stating the obvious champ! You're a real football brain.

But the point is certain players often do line up as named - as per last week with Houlihan on Milne

Jamison and Kreuzer in is very good news. Jamo is becoming a very important player for us down back. Kreuzer to play his first game which is exciting.

Edwards and Setanta out are interesting moves. I am disappointed that Edwards was dropped but can't say that I was surprised. Struggled last week because of a lack of opportunities but he'll be back as the season goes on and has shown that he'll be a useful player in the future. Setanta out I don't agree with, but I suppose that this week, if any, we don't really need him down back or in the ruck, so he can get some fitness and form with the Ants.

If Hadley is a late exclusion which many seem to think, then looking forward to Armfield making his debut which will bring our tally up to 4 AFL debuts already this season . Fantastic to see that Armfield and Bentick are close to senior selection.

Ratts i know your a carlton legend but him starting to get a little pissed at him....

what the hell as that got to do with anything????? he's the head coach and needs to be placed under the microscope whether he played for us in the past or not. Right now he is sitting on a zero percent win rate and he bloody well better get us a win soon. and also wtf calling him a Carlton legend??? Hell he was a good player for us over a long period but legend???

i don't know what Bentick has done to piss Ratten off so much but every week i hear he plays well in the ants and he never gets a game. Russel has done nothing and why drop O'Hailphin?

O'hAilpin would have been dropped because having him in would be overkill. Waite and Jamo are better KPD's while Thornton and Bower have more ability to play on the medium/smalls as well as talls which essendon don't have many of.

Bentick I suspect is purely not in for team balance although I agree Russell doesn't deserve to be in.

I gotta say I'm surprised at how many people expect/want Bentick into the team. It seems like not very long ago with the arrival of blokes like Judd and Hadley that many believed Bentick was gonnnnnnnnee and that he was last in the pecking for our midfield... Interesting indeed.

Personally I am happy with the 2 changes, both ins are good and are the future of the club.

I like young Jake but I think a run in the magoos wont hurt and he has the potential for a bright future at the club. He can go down and get a bit more game time and work on nailng a few more through the big sticks from set shots. He will come back better for it.

Similar with Sentanta who has missed a bit of the pre-season and needs to get a few more miles under his belt and work on his confidence levels.

AB may be a bit stiff but like Carrazzo struggles to hit targets and we cant have too many of these in the side at once. Can tackle but struggles a bit with leg speed.

Cant wait for Armfield to get a call up as I reckon he will be a little ripper (famous last words???).

Playing Scotland and Pheiffer on the HFF is not actually a bad move if they did happen to line up like that. Essendon would fancy the run that they could get from Houli and Winderlich and this may be a solution to shut that down...

As for Russell, c'mon guys give the guy a break. How many supporters out there were calling for Simmo to be dropped, he was tiny and went through his first 6-10 games with barely a possession... He certainly has put on some size this year and looks to be a bit harder at the contest. All it will take is some confidence and I think we will see he will be part of our future success

Go Blues!!

i havent completely given up on him but i am struggling to understand what he has done to earn a regular spot in the side. i think there others more deserving at this point

Backs: Ryan Houlihan, Bret Thornton, Michael Jamison

Half backs: Jordan Russell, Jarrad Waite, Bryce Gibbs

Centreline: Kade Simpson, Chris Judd, Nick Stevens

Half forwards: Darren Pfeiffer, Matthew Kreuzer, Heath Scotland

Forwards: Brad Fisher, Brendan Fevola, Eddie Betts

Followers: Cameron Cloke, Andrew Carrazzo, Marc Murphy

Interchange: Jordan Bannister, Paul Bower, Richard Hadley, Shaun Hampson

Emerg: Dennis Armfield, Adam Bentick, Ryan Jackson

In:
Michael Jamison – was a late withdrawal last week with general soreness
Matthew Kreuzer – will make his AFL Debut

Out
Jake Edwards – omitted
Setanta O’hAilpin – omitted
Actually think that is a pretty good line up:thumbsu:
Walker would see bannister out of the 22 when fit and Russell needs to be given some opportunity seeing it could be his last year. You never know, could just be a late bloomer;)
I am pretty confident of our first win this week:thumbsu:

I don't see Walker competing for Banno's spot.

Jackson, maybe Anderson and Armfield are competing for that spot.

Walker is not a shut down player. Needs to be competing for Russells spot. Defending HFF that can run forward with the turnover, or do dmage when in 50.

Right about Russ, O.K. last week and may just be turning a corner.

It's a bit of a surprise selection decision, but I can see the rationale. If we include Kruezer and Jamo, we have to drop 2 talls, otherwise we'll be too top-heavy. There were a few midfielders that could have been dropped after last weeks effort, but Ratten is understandably keen to limit the number of changes. Watching the Blues over the past 2 weeks, it is very obvious that our players are yet to gel as a team. Judd made comments to this effect, when he said players aren't anticipating each others actions yet. This just takes time to develop and limiting team changes will help. The side looks nicely balanced. Kruezer can play anywhere - forward, back or wing. Really looking forward to his game. I'd definitely play Waite at CHF for a large part of this game. Apart from Lloyd, the Dons don't really have any other KP forwards, and playing Waite on an ordinary like McPhee is a bit of a waste IMO. :)

Big mistake not to pick Bentick again. We need his defensive pressure around the ball.
Not fit and turned the ball over in the Ants.....with less pressure.

How many underdone players can we "hide" in the midfield?

Stevens, Judd, Hadley, Pfeiffer..............you want to add another?

Might pay to check your facts before you have a go at people.

How they might match up.

Ryder and Fletcher could easily swap, but we need a taller opponent to play on Winderlich.

We still need another running defender.

Armfield has to be coming in for Hadley if he doesn't come up for the game .

I'm worried about Simpson being less than 100% for this game.
