Retirees, but not by too much. I think the backs of both would towel up the forwards of either side, so that isn't the issue. The midfield is where it is won, gazza, ling and corey just have the edge over the current line up. Having all that skill and hardness would defeat the relatively pacier line up of the current crop.

ATM I'd say retirees but if we are taking careers into account we probably still haven't seen the best of Motlop Caddy Guthrie et al.

Current lot by a point circa 2022.

Jeez we're spoilt as supporters when you consider just how competitive we still are with the amount of talent that has retired or moved on. The Geelong juggernaut has almost done a full circle. We'll be adding to the silverware in the not too distant future IMO. Chris Scott said it was always about 2015 and beyond, right?

The team with Chappy wins.

Seriously, with the blistering speed of Wojo, the G&D of the likes of Corey, Rooke & Ling, the sheer class of GAJ, and the likes of Scarlett and Milburn doing as they please in defence, can you go past the Retirees?
Yo can because the retirees have some absolute liabilities, Egan, Menzel, Rooke, and any of those not currently playing.
on current form you'd have to pick the current mob. half the leavers would be no where near match fit

I was expecting a better punchline to "Two Geelong teams walk into an MCG..."

The retirees for mine but their wings are ordinary compared to the current side.

And the current crop, I reckon, have them covered off the interchange.

Ling on Johnson and Scarlett on Hawkins would be fun to watch.

And Enright V a fully fit (ie no recos) Menzel (with more experience) would be interesting.
Agreed - i thought the thread was going to be about having 2 Geelong teams in the AFL -i know that is a total nonsense at present - but who knows in 60- 70 years time - anythings possible- if Geelongs population growth keeps expanding

You look at the EPL - with Man City /United - Liverpool/ Everton- Birmingham/Aston Villa - 2 teams in the one City

Like to give a hypothetical example - if Geelong West the old VFA team - the Roosters were brought into the AFL next season - and they played Geelong - then i wouldnt be pro Geelong- i would be 50-50 - wouldnt worry me who won or who lost

Just imagine if they played off in a Grand Final- that would be the ultimate -you couldnt depressed with the result - because a Geelong team has to win- beautiful

I loved the Roosters- they were a sort of extension of the Cats, weren't they? Almost like where the older players went out to pasture after their time in the VFL :)

I went to every home game in '72 when Goggin was captain coach. Loved seeing Radojevic kick a bagfull each week, the Brown brothers oozing class, and big bad David Manson dominating in the ruck. It was a crap home ground, but who cared? The Roosters just never lost.

It was a sad day when Geelong West folded.

Interesting .
We look at the first lot and assume each player is playing "at his peak" based on a whole career? This means that the second team is at a disadvantage, as many still have long careers ahead where, arguably, they will be much seasoned and presumably improved players( Some perhaps legends?) They don't have the chance of turning up to the"match' in cherry ripe career peak form...
so on that basis, Here and now- No contest . I will have to go with the older guys.
( Ablett CHF??- I presume you are just doing the usual pregame hi jinx ;) )
