News Two-year contract for Jake Neade

An interesting point is that in 2016 all of his stats are up on his career average except for goals.

He's also hit these career highs in 2016: Handballs, Disposals, Tackles & Goals.

All this in a team that I think would have their stats down overall I think is a pretty decent effort for a fringe player.

No problem with this, he has been trying and should improve as he gets more games under his belt, if not we have not lost much at all.

It not like we just gave some random injury prone spud a 5 year deal, save the doom and gloom for more important things.

Well done Jakey :)

A new contract is warranted. Interesting saying he's taken Monfries spot. What do they classify Young as having done then?

With two years I hope they have plan to allow him to push further up the ground. For his size he's not afraid of the inside play and may be a smokey for a wing role when White goes. He's not Polec's level there, but I'd put him against Amon for the other line breaker we need (we look so slow and stagnant with zero or only one playing the role).

For me - he has given more than Boak has this season
Don't think that many will disagree, but the standards by which we are referencing/comparing performances are too low.

If Pittard scored a 2 year contract, I would be happy. If we locked up DBJ for another 2 years, I would be happy.

Just about everyone else can be on a 1 y performance based contract until this group delivers a bloody premiership. That includes the captain and our recent, big name recruits. None of them has proven a thing.

He's got more guts and plays with more heart than some masquerading as our footballers this year. Onya Neadey :thumbsu:

His effort remains unquestionable. His skill level, kicking ability inside of forward 50 and general finishing is not where it should be.

Effort to do the one-percenters, chasing, tackling and team things needs to become the norm for all of our players, not the exception. Just as importantly, everyone on our list needs to hone their ball handling and disposal skills both when under pressure and when in the clear.

I think we are seeing the results of premature back-slapping and praising qualities that at the better clubs can be taken for granted because everyone buys into them and displays them.

When you see the development of certain young "mediocre" players at other clubs, and their ability to run both ways and execute their skills to a high level in the heat of battle, you begin to realise how little some of our youngsters have actually improved (Impey, Amon, Colquhoun, Sam Gray, AhChee, Neade), not to mention all of the stagnating/regressing senior players on our list.

Giving Neade 2 years is no different to giving DBJ 2 years ie. players that show promise with under 50 games.

Not bad, deserves it after putting in all year. It's easy to have a crack at a small forward in a struggling side but geez he has been the least of our problems this year.

Well I don't mind Neade getting 2. He's only recently turned 22 and is showing some positive signs for mine, he's one of the rare few in our squad that I think has shown improvement on last year. I doubt we are selling the farm for Neade. There are guys with much bigger contracts, leaders of our club, entering the prime years of their respective careers that are producing less than Neade on a consistent basis this year that we should be having a crack at.

Also I reckon that the notion that longer contracts leads to complacency is oversold. If it actually is a thing we need to find these grubs and ship them out asap, contracts can set a player up for life but it shouldn't be the main motivating factor of a player. These are professional sportsmen, winning and being the best player they can be should be at the forefront of every players mind regardless of the length of their contracts. Some players form this year may suggest I'm wrong about this and if that's the case hopefully the door doesn't hit these players on the way out.

I think it was FishingRick04 that commented on the podcast that in general contracts tend to be getting longer.
In the scheme of things, 2 years for someone who has noticeably improved in a bad year is probably not something to melt over.

Onya Neadey!!

Neade certainly does divide opinion. I guess because so many people have different criteria on which they judge him.

It might sounds harsh but when you have a career average of around 11 disposals and less than a goal a game you would certainly hope his stats would start heading north. The 4 goals against Collingwood was certainly what he needed to hopefully give him some belief.

Happy to see him get a two year deal and hope he can kick on.

We must get Pittard signed, he is the sort of player you can build a team around.

Since we have started to see a few re-signings, Youngy,Matt White and now Jakey, I have been hoping we would get some news about Jasper. Would be happier if we had hin locked away too.

Yes, imo a very important signing Jasper will be, one guy that can hold his head up high when things were going pear shaped.
