Can those that watch SANFL regularly comment on how Tyler is going. Obviously needed a massive improvement in fitness but seems to be struggling to step up to league level
As I said in the SANFL thread, pretty bad. To his credit, the paunch is gone, but so has the talent. He has zero influence and could well be a bust.

If it was possible he could probably do with a run in a lower level just to have some impact. He is still young but doesn't look SANFL league standard.

I used to think it was just effort holding him back but I am starting to think he might not have the talent for AFL.

He still has plenty of time to turn it around.

Too early to be writing the young fella off yet.

Don't think Burgess being the main focus deep forward is helping, maybe playing Tyler further up the ground where he likely would have more opportunities to find the pill would assist?

We probably need to manage our expectations about how high we can reasonably expect a player's ceiling to be when they're taken at pick 59 in the draft. Yes, some great players have come from the later rounds, preseason draft, rookie draft etc, but that is very speculative territory. And if it doesn't work out it's not like we burned a good pick on him like we did with the likes of McAsey, Gallucci, McHenry etc

It's an interesting side note that another young SA key forward in Charlie West is apparently debuting for Collingwood this week against Freo. If I'm not mistaken we could have drafted Charlie for a pretty similar pick as to what we got Tyler so that comparison between the two will be one to watch going forward.

In terms of highlight watching only seems to have shown a couple of glimpses the last fortnight in terms of clunking some big marks and putting on the afterburners to kick some goals.

Remain convinced there's something to work with there.

Unpopular opinion incoming.

I reckon he gets delisted having never played an AFL game.

Unpopular but also just a bit silly and shows you don't know a lot about him. Clearly has the ability. If ned McHenry can play 70 games at afl level, then Welsh will definetly play.

Nothing Welsh has shown in the last year has changed my opinion on this.

McHenry may have been a very ordinary AFL footballer, but at the very least he had the drive and work rate required of the level. Welsh has neither.

Kicking him or not playing him and setting these arbitrary fitness standards is one way, one that has cost us a few talents over the years... another might be if we think he can play, playing him in a less aerobic position at afl level to start with like in defence and see if the penny drops.
