Roast Tyson Stengle sacked after ****ing up again

This whole playing for the Eagles is confusing. What mechanism allows it, what would the SANFL and other SANFL clubs think of our player being used in the Eagles team and not ours. I'm also guessing it can't happen until he's delisted by us.
I mean the AFL clubs have been using non listed players during the trial games too.

It's probably why he's playing reserves not league in any case

Nicks has set what he expects from the players to be at the club, that's both on-field and off. Stengle hasn't met those expectations, but the problem arises when they've made it clear to Stengle, he's agreed and promised to do better and then fallen back into the same habits again. At a certain point the club has to cut ties with the player, regardless of what their talent level is if you want those standards to stick across the group. I think if the culture at the club was stronger and we weren't rebuilding from scratch you could perhaps give some more leeway, but it's early in the process and we don't have that strong culture in place, so unfortunately they may have to be harsher than in previous years.

With that being said just because he's not on the list doesn't mean the Crows should leave him hanging in the wind and completely cut off and I would hope they continue to provide support for him off-field so he can get his life back on track.
To be honest, I was neither here nor there with whatever decision that was to end up. I don’t see a problem with them delisting him, just finding it rather odd why it’s taken so long to come to this outcome. I mean, if Nicks has had enough of Stengle not adhering to club fundamentals, then they really should have done a decision a lot sooner IMO.

Regardless, I do hope he’s still looked after by the club in some capacity. We’d want to look firm, but not callous. I also hope he can get his act together and potentially bid for an AFL return. Would like to see what more he can offer as a player.

From the sounds of it having to negotiate with Stengle, the AFLPA and the AFL slowed that all down tremendously.

The fact we've been in negotiations probably says we've been clear on what we wanted, but had to keep going back to the table to get that outcome.

I do think perhaps due to the pandemic and player numbers being more restricted, it might have swayed our decision on the cut. Also perhaps not in Stengle’s favour, we have a lot more young talent due to the recent draft we had, and all vying for potential AFL spots.

So the decision I feel isn’t a simple should he stay or go, but based on the probability of others overtaking him for spots, with the reduction in list size.

I know as supporters we pump players up but I never felt Stengel was ever going to be that good. I think if we rated him higher we would of given him another chance and kept him on the list.

Any chance we are smart enough to put a clause in the pay out contract that he can’t get picked up in a mid year situation by another club?
Unless they pick up his salary.... ie. We get refunded.

Unlikely. We would paid him in full or close to it and I don't believe we can stop him playing elsewhere as it would be restraint of trade. The fact that we were willing to pay him to not play for us means that his contract is now finished. He can play anywhere and I expect him to be at an afl club from June onwards. The league is riddled with recreational drug users so if another club feels he can help them he will be picked up. Bit of a sad situation but Stengle has likely done well financially out of this. We as a club are the loser unfortunately as our salary cap has shrunk for this year and quite possibly next year. Message to other players on our list, be very discreet what you get up outside of the club as we don't have the tolerance of other clubs. If our club thinks they can get rid of the problem by getting rid of the player they are mistaken.

If this was any of us we lost our day jobs months ago and without a payout
Yeah but what these guys can do, kicking a leather thing between two sticks is far, far more important than anything that any of us do*

*I always say that if all the actors disappeared off the face of the earth we'd all survive. If all the plumbers disappeared we'd be be knee deep in sh!t inside a week. Footballers are the same. FFS, it's a game

You can say the same about any athlete, but perspective.

These guys earn more than scientists

Depends on the scientist.

Assuming Stengle is on $250k, there would be a lot of people in STEM industries earning a lot more than that.

You worry Stengle is going to end up one of those players you read about in the newspaper in five years who's in trouble with the law or worse

Hopefully he can get his life back on track

Being punted out of (possibly) the only thing he's good at could go one of two ways for him

What???... 10’s of thousands of Aussies take recreational drugs every weekend and none of them lose their jobs..

They are not being paid huge wads of money to kick a footy around in an elite national sporting Comp. either.

His contract extension is a major issue..

Did they genuinely not know that Tyson was on a path of destruction? Surely they did, people talk.

Did they rush to sign him because they had decided to cut Eddie and were concerned Tyson would walk as a result ?

Was his signature really that important given how easily and relatively cheaply his spot has been replaced (Rowe) an upgrade in my option.

THIS CLUB JUST KEEPS MAKING SHYT DECISIONS.
