Roast Tyson Stengle sacked after ****ing up again

His contract extension is a major issue..

Did they genuinely not know that Tyson was on a path of destruction? Surely they did, people talk.

Did they rush to sign him because they had decided to cut Eddie and were concerned Tyson would walk as a result ?

Was his signature really that important given how easily and relatively cheaply his spot has been replaced (Rowe) an upgrade in my option.

THIS CLUB JUST KEEPS MAKING SHYT DECISIONS.
He'd probably performed well enough to get an extension TBF, but if they didn't know his activities it's really poor.

I’ve heard that Stengle has been aware for sometime that he won’t be back at the club. The delay has purely been a player welfare issue. The club has had to provide evidence to the AFLPA that they have given Tyson adequate assistance before they officially remove him from the list.

What???... 10’s of thousands of Aussies take recreational drugs every weekend and none of them lose their jobs..
And 10's of thousands of us have mandatory drug and alcohol testing at our work places and would be gone on the spot if we failed one

No.. not at all workplaces.. and not at my workplace.

And all that matters in this case is the recreational drug policy that covers the AFL association. It is a three strikes policy.

We know Stengle has one strike where he was caught by police in possession.. we know he was photographed near a plate which may or may not have had an illicit substance on it.. that actually hasnt been proven and probably cannot be at this point..

We dont know, as we havent been told, if he has any other prior stikes.

At this point in time the organisation Stengle is employed by has a three strikes policy. He has one confirmed strike.

If the AFC or the AFL want to sack him then they would have to pay him out his full contract or a negotiated amount because at this point their very own policy says he cannot be simply sacked and not payed out. It would be an unfair dismissal case the AFL would lose in court.

Sounds like they are going to pay him out.. what I want to know is whether that payout will be counted in the clubs salary cap for the next two years.. if it is, it is yet another example of the dopes running our club doing an absolutely terrible job of it.

Yeah but what these guys can do, kicking a leather thing between two sticks is far, far more important than anything that any of us do*

*I always say that if all the actors disappeared off the face of the earth we'd all survive. If all the plumbers disappeared we'd be be knee deep in sh!t inside a week. Footballers are the same. FFS, it's a game

You can say the same about any athlete, but perspective.

These guys earn more than scientists
I can see this vantage point. However, there are 2 separate arguments:
1. Are footballers lucky with the huge stack of money they earn at AFL level? Relatively speaking, majority of us would likely agree.

2. Are footballers deserving of fair trials and punishments like the rest of us? I hope most of us would agree on “yes”, but it seems it doesn’t work like that in today’s reality. For example, how many of us would lose a job after a fine for driving unregistered, and caught twice for recreational drug use, outside of work hours?

I’m guessing the club isn’t arguing about the three strikes for drug use, but most likely their stance is more about creating a positive culture. The 3 misdemeanours in last 12 months, is definitely helping Stengle to stand out from the pack as an inhibitor to a positive culture we’re aiming for.

My impression is: Stengle did bad in the wrong year where the club was at its minimal tolerance.

This is not a proven star player we're talking about here, this is a 22 year old small forward a veteran of 16 AFL games across his 4 years on an AFL list for a return of 15 goals.. He's had his opportunities and burned them....time to move on.

Hell I am from the old school of thought which would be "do the crime do the time" but I do feel for Tyson. Whilst its easy to say that a club is an environment that would help him and educate him its also an environment of peer pressure where trying to fit in and be accepted results with guys doing things that they have been coaxed into. I find myself thinking that he should be given another chance. If the league has a 3 strike policy then give him the chance to fix what he has done. If he breaks the 3 strike policy then surely we can cut him without paying out his contract.

Look, the lad has been a product of his environment .....that said, the club has made the correct call

It's now up to Stengle to show he can put the work in, and win back an AFL list spot ....sadly I doubt that'll happen

But he hasnt had three strikes.. he’s had one confirmed strike and, on another occassion a photo shown in the medai of him sitting next to a plate of white powder. Was it coke?, probably, but “probably” doesnt stand up in a court of law..

The AFL policy is three strikes. So far its only one confirmed strike.

He may have, his strike with Crouch earned him a 4 game suspension which is the penalty for a second strike. His name was made public by the nature of the incident. That said, they did say his extra penalty compared to Crouch was due to his earlier DUI issue.

To reference an old Manfred Mann song is the Adelaide Football Club going to become "the home for wayward boys and girls" or a high achieving football club?

That song by the way is "My name is Jack".

My last few comments have been referring more to the initial comment made by P Bassett along the lines of “if any of us did what stengle had done we’d be sacked without a payout”.. which is completely false.

Some of us would be, some wouldn't be.

I know I would be.

Key words you used is "At our workplace" they are not tested at home or in their own time, and if they are pick up in SA for possession they are not named.
Also if they receive a DUI out of working hours it only affects the Drivers due to them losing their licence.
