Come to think of it, would be a great GF curtain raiser, Under23 v Over23. Would indicate whether the future is brighter than the past.

As a lot of the 'greats' have retired or are retiring the older-end of the playing lists is a bit sparse compared to the young guns, wh are as good but probably (as croad says) Younger Faster Bigger Stronger

Couldn't agree more, Pessimistic.
The season is over for 14 clubs and would provide a much better spectacle for the crowd than the Victorian based VFL comp. With the reserves now defunct it would be much better and would be great to watch. Teams would not complain too much as the season is complete and gets more great players in for the GF.
The only concern would be that the game may end up being better than the GF which would not go down too well. May work better than the State of Origin concept.
While Pickett is a great player, i think that Nathan Brown has played better this season overall.

By the way the VFL grand final is the week before this year, at Waverley. If the saints or hawks make it look out for a big crowd.

The curtain raiser for AFL GF will be u-18s plus some other game

It would be good to get some overseas teams in for a taste of the big day - Say Denmark v UK or US
