have heard williamstown and parade have joined.

also a rumor that aquinas couldnt get a team or just have dropped out
 
by the looks of the clearances on the vafa website, williamstown will be in the U18s, another big loss for the wrfl
 
9 team comp by the looks of the VAFA site. Rupo, Williamstown, UHS, Therry, Oakleigh, St Johns, O Camberwell, St Bernards & Werribee.
No mention of Parade at this time. 10 teams would be great.

In its 3rd year the U18 comp seems to be going backwards while the U19 comp continues to grow and prosper (46 U19 teams in 2011).

I thought the idea of the 18s was to give district clubs a viable junior feeder team but of this year’s starters 5 of the 9 are actually school-based clubs (6 if you include Uni High) and several of those clubs already field U19s. It seems that the clubs it was designed for is not really supporting the concept.

The VAFA’s strongest underage clubs, De La Salle and Xavs have stuck with 2 x U19s and will not change. St Bedes tested the waters but have gone back to 2 x U19s. Beaumaris, one of the strongest district clubs prefers 2 x 19s. Are we better off just going back to 19s thereby allowing more kids to play? More clubs would provide the scope for more grades appropriate to each teams level of ability.

Just my observations and obviously those involved are best placed to answer this but is the U18s worth persevering with?

Some very good observations and comments, Rooster.
It seems the Ammos take a little while (some would say a long while) to actually assess a few glaring facts - the first is that australian rules continues to lose a lot of players who finish junior football (U17) and for whatever reason don't go on to play senior football. A significant reason is a lack of pathways for football progression. Kids develop in all sorts of ways and they need opportunities to progress.
The second fact is that the ammos have left a gaping hole for young player progression by calling their junior level Under 19. It's always been Under 20 (you can be 19 or under on 1st July). Why they have picked the 1st of July has always been a mystery - it effectively dissects the kids who were born in the first half of the year from the second half.
Mates who are born a few months apart in the same school years are unable to play together.
So, at the moment, the ammos have an actual U20 and U19 competition. They need to address this and I've heard a whisper that they are going to finally realign age groups properly next year to have an U20 and U19 competition, with players eligibility being under the respective age from 31st December each year.
That will finally open up junior amateur football to kids who have left VCE and can be enticed to play at their own level.
Football should always be about opportunities for development and progression. I hope they get it right next year because at the moment its not working.
I would suspect that Clubs like St Bedes with a junior feeder are still losing players that leave after U17s.
We need to align age groups properly and I reckon it will work.
 
have been playing werribee for 10 years and they've never fielded a weak side, they'll be very hard to beat again i suspect

You're 'punishing' my eyes, but I will pay you, aswell as many more players back with some real punishment on the field starting this Saturday
