De La, Xavs, and Bernards are in A grade, while Rupo seniors are in C grade. The players who are eligible for 19's but are playing seniors for Rupo wouldnt be as good as the under 19 guys who are playing A grade footy. I'm sure it would make a difference to Rupo 19's if they had these guys playing but to say they would be flag contenders is a bit far-fetched. The players that do get out on the park for Rupo 19's are a long way behind the guys from the top four teams.

cmon danny, give rupo sum credit! xavs hav no under19s playin senior footy and i surely doubt the calibre of the dela and bernards 19s boys playin seniors are not of that with the rupo 19s boys playin seniors, nor do they have 6 under19s players play week week out. and also of those 6 rupo boys 3 of them made the state side this yr all making solid contributions to the side, compared to dela and bernards who had none!

Goes without saying that these players would make a significant difference, possibly even get them into the four (which I guess makes them ultimatey a contender for the flag in one sense), but I'm not convinced it would be enough for rupo this year. Especially considering that, if not 7, they'd probably have 1 or 2 up every week. It need be remembered that they are, after all, much closer to relegation than to a top 4 spot...

Fanatic, if you'll again come back for a second, how many of these players played 19's last year? What are their names? May help as a reference point, and make any response more than just largely baseless speculation.

Cheers.

If we had a real under 19 comp (cut-off 1 January) we wouldn't be talking about who's got the best players in their senior side. Four of the 'magnificent seven' turn 20 this year so it's a farce for these guys to play u19 footy in any case. The VAFA want to start an u17 comp to make the transition for the younger guys a little easier. They should make it totally fair by kicking the 20 year olds out of the u19s.

Fair point that...if that did happen i believe Xavs wouldnt be as strong as they are now

there'd be no u17 OX team as they'd still be at school and have to play in the APS on saturdays... count in carey, skevs, uni blues etc...

unless i have the concept of an under 17 comp confused?

You would be right the wave, there would be no u/17 team from most of the premier league teams - now geez wouldnt that make for a good comp.

Uni Blues, Uni blacks, Old Cary, Old Scoth, St Kevins and Old Xavs would all not field a team.

That leaves marcellin, De la, Bernards and Rupo who would field teams - and considering school boys generally help these team considerably it would no doubt weaken there u/19 teams!!!

Hate to say it , but they would make Rupo into instant premiership contenders. they are guns and would walk into A section sides- talking about Quigly, Baddeley in particular, and i am not from Rupo

Blacks to thump Carey and get out of relegation this week, again.
Berndards to give Scotch a touch up and push further into the top 4.
De La and Xavs to have easy wins cementing there spots as the top two.
Blues and Skevs to play out a close one on what appears to be a Sunday game.

Anyone able to predict an upset this week?

i will hav a crack at a few upsets as i think this is the round for them,

Scotch will kick it off by upsetting bernards by 2 goals, if they can keep sherwin in the side

Carey to upset blacks by 1goal

De la to pump marcellin 10goals

Xavs over rupo by 5goals with players out

and finally my last crack at an upset, Skob to embarress blues on their own open day by 3goals

dunno wat skob boys have done to u, as they havn't seem to offend anyone, or mayb it's because u boys were 1 of their only 4 wins and claim to b a premiership chance, would love to hear your thoughts weapon

What the hell are you talking about? They Beat 4 teams that i am not involved with... And the only reason their posts annoyed me because every 2nd post they made said that that o'rourke guy was the next j.brown. Didnt amuse me.

Marcellin have their AGS stuff on a Saturday too. They wouldn't be fielding a side either, you'd assume.

Just like last year?

Wave,

Rupo seniors managed to strip the U19s last year who then played an integral part in promotion to C grade. I don't think the suggestion is far-fetched. However I'm not in favour of 20 year olds playing in an u19 comp. What would happen to the other teams if 1 January was the cutoff?

Bernards better get their act together with finals just around the corner. Losses to Kevs, Marcellin, and Scotch cant be doing a great deal for team morale even if they are supposedly playing with a mid-strength team at the moment. Its looking more and more likely that Xavs and De La will again be slugging it out on the grand final stage.

I'll 2nd that... Looks like the same old grand final matchup.

Who are the magnificent 7??

You're just setting me up Bizz. This will be a mine's bigger than yours argument. The term was just off the cuff. My post concerns the ridiculous idea that people turning 20 this year can play in an u19 competition. Only two have played u19s this year (one from each group-u19 and over 19). The other five have played seniors all year. You can look at the last VAFA u19 rep side and three Rupo players are selected (one u19 and two over 20).

Thought I'd submit some nominations for team of the year honours:
Kovarik (DLS) and Delahunty (Marc) clearly the best key forwards in the league.
Mick Dundon (DLS) has been very solid at CHB, and McQueen-Miscamble (OC) is probably the best FB in the comp. Difficult to decide on midfielders because the best tend to play senior footy, or VFL.
Any other suggestions?

How many games do you need to play to qualify?

very controversial result down at righetti yesterday.

Marcellin got over the line as the game descended into farce amidst accusations of cheating.

The accusations were levelled at the Marcellin provided goal umpire when the kick that gave marcellin the lead appeared to be a point. As the players argued the second umpire sneakily (as in no-one knew what was going on) bounced the ball back in the centre where marcellin players were practically un-oppossed, resulting in the sealing goal with seconds left.

Thats the first time I'd seen anything like this so i thought i'd post it up here. Honestly can't say whether or not the goal umpire cheated as i was in the pocket practically side-on to the goals at the time. Huge ramifications for SKOB in particular who need a win to stave off relagation.

Was a shame for the game to end that way because it was a good tough game played in good spirits until the dying minutes.

given the result from the blacks v bernards game yesterday, a win yesterday would hav pulled skob out of relegation and given them another crack at premier next yr, they now hav the job of knocking off an inform scotch to survive, yesterdays result was a joke as even the alledged goal kicked conceded it was a mere behind, not to mention the fact the last quater some how managed to go for 38mins, just to put the icing on the cake the umpires decided to report the skob coach and player, lets hope skob can get up next week

Was at the SKOB V Marcellin game yetserday and i sympathise with the skob boys. A team trying to avoid relegation, put in their best efforts all day, but were just out-done by a more polished marcellin outfit.

Controversy riddled the 38th minute mark of the final quarter, and some ludicrous umpiring (both ways) all day marred a brilliant contest.

Understandably some skobbers will be bitter re: incompentent goal umpiring and field umpires refusal to reward holding the ball created by some hard tackling, but ultimately skob only managed 2 second half goals and thats not good enough.

It would be very interesting to hear thoughts from anyone else who was at righetti on saturday..
