As you said Godfather, thought the game was brilliant for three quarters.

Last quarter was just ruined by pathetic umpiring, as you said both ways. Did not pay a holding the ball all day until somehow plucking one out late against SKOB resulting in a goal.

The point dela kicked in the 38th minute (given a goal) was just a disgrace, then the umpire re-starting play before the goal umpires flags had even been waved is just 100% wrong. VAFA should really do something about it, goal umpire clearly cheated to get his sons team over the line and the umpires dont even know the rules.

Simple rule really, why would you throw the ball up when the other field umpire and the goal umpire are still talking about wether or not a goal was kicked?

Interesting posts re Marcellin V St Kevs. Sounds like the goal umpire got it wrong. But why? What was the goal umpire's motive? Could have been a close call and a wrong decision was made. But give me an idea of how far did it miss by. A centimetre? A metre? Did any of you have the same view as the goal umpire? Are your views free from bias?
I can't belive the second part to the story. All clear would have been signalled for play to progress.
Did St Kevs not have a player at the bounce? That would be a total breakdown in discipline.

Ball was a clear clear miss, didnt even swing - was a blatent miss, the goal umpire just wanted his son to win. Delahunty didnt even celebrate it, until it was given of course and later admitted it missed aswell. Goal umpire just said it was the best he could do, simply cheated!

The flags were been waved as a marcellin player took a mark on the half foward flank - so i know its hard to believe, but the umpire actually threw it up without the flags getting waved. Absolute joke an umpire does this, even more of a joke if the VAFA dosnt do something - although Xavier were not involved.. so doubtful Sholly will care.

whethere or not the goal umpire Intentionally cheated or not i don't think is the biggest problem, more the fact that the feild umpires saw the ball go through for a point and failed to over-rule which is well within their rights, skobs kick 4 straight points to start the last quater and just couldn't seem to shut the door on marcellin. seemed the boys ran out of legs in the last 5 minuets which is understandable after a 38minuet quater, but i think had some of the 20 odd holding the balls being paid this would hav saved the boys a considerable amount of extra running they did as played continued, although there is nothing vafa can do besides trying to beta train umpires, it would b disapointing for a team to get relegated after such circumstances

Biggest problem was the ball been thrown up before the goal umpires had even finalised the decision!! Goal umpiring is sometime very speculative, you would expect the field umpire to know the rules though!

Agreed. The goal umpire in question is not to blame for the subsequent proceedings of the game. The incompentence of the field umpiring is.

Had it not been for the field umpires basic mistake (to restart play before the goal umpire had waved the flags to signal a goal) the furore that followed would not have eventuated - that is, the report of the St. Kevins coach and one of its players. Given that they (field umpries) made quenstionable decisions all day - regarding holding the ball decisions - this contributed to the angst felt by the losing team.

Whilst the incompentence of te umpires created the controversy, the lack of finishing skills cost the skobbers the game. As mentioned by The Uncle, skob weren't able to close out the game and thatis ultimately what cost them the all-important 4 points.

Add the fact that relegation now looms for the losing team and it is undertsnadable why all this angst and hostility broke out after the siren.

An apology, or at least some recognition of this farce, would suffice - but we all know the vafa can't do much about it now. The best bet - to get over it and concentrate on an intense last round of home and away matches.

Thanks for the extra info fellas. St Kev's would have to lodge an official complaint. The player, goal umpire, umpires and other interested parties should be asked to give evidence. If it's wrong, it should be overturned. Precedent St. Kilda v Fremantle.

Wont get changed, there was proof of an umpire error in the form of a video replay in that case. He simply called a blatent point a goal, no proof to suggest otherwise though.

It was also not a timing issue (although the quarter went for 38 minutes!!) more a wrong decision.. this has never been changed (ie that st kilda point a few yrs ago)

Cheats should be punished though!! Dont know how.

its interesting to see that no marcellin boys are defending these allegations...unless not one of them has read this forum... you would expect a marcellin member to backup their team if they truly thought that the point was a goal.. i was at the game also and it was quite obviously a behind.... if it was the winning goal you would of expected the goal kicker dela hunty and his team mates to have a massive celebration but not even a wimper was seen after it was kicked players simply were getting prepared for the kick in.. if skob do not win this week.. this goal umpire has single handedly denied skevs another crack at the premier league next year.. if he was any sort of a bloke he would of made a neutral decision not a biased decision in order for his sons team to get over the line.. i am a strong believer in karma and i believe that karma will come to him

Interesting news on VAFA concerning protests/complaints. You've got until 3.00pm tomorrow. All you need is $200.00 at time of lodgement. You should get it back if you're right. Come on, save St. Kevs from relegation.

The main umpire could have over ruled the call by the goal umpire. we have all had a goal umpire who has made a bad call, look at the AFL most weekends.

If the St. Kevs players were arguing with the umpire (goal) and the umpire in the middle thought it was getting out of control, thats why he would have thrown the ball up to get the players back chasing the footy. It is what is taught to the umpires if a situation is getting out of hand and the ball is dead get the game going again and the players will stop arguing and go and play footy.

All of the above is on the assumption that the st Kev players were in fact arguing with either goal or field umpire.

Fish that is usually the case. Umpires are taught to throw the ball up to get the play moving. However they are not allowed to throw it up before a decision has even been made on a goal or point.

The goal umpire was about 20 metres out from goal running up to speak to the main umpire, whilst the main umpire was still trying to figure out what he was going to do. The flags have to be waved to re start play - find me a rule, or precedence that suggests otherwise!!!

VAFA will be to weak to do anything about it, but they should!

Scotch have shown over the past few weeks that when they play their best footy, that they can match it with anyone in the competition, by beating Bernards and narrowly losing to Xav's and Blues...

I'd imagine that skob's would be really keen to avoid the drop so they'd be fired up, but realistically, they've got little or no chance of winning.

mate fair enough scotch are a quality team but look at the facts u've just posted, skob also beat bernards, skob narrowly lost to xav's when they had williams n meccuri in which i'm guessing they didn't on the weekend and also just went down to blues. this game will be all about who wants it more, i think skob will b still fuming after last week and hav a number of quality inclusions so look for that miracle mate

Losses to Kevs, Marcellin, and Scotch cant be doing a great deal for team morale even if they are supposedly playing with a mid-strength team at the moment. Its looking more and more likely that Xavs and De La will again be slugging it out on the grand final stage.

Well midstrength is being a tad optimistic there. Wait untill first round of finals, there will be a bernards outfit that will make Xavs and De La look like a bunch a chior girls. Be Prepared.

with the season over for the seniors all concentration will be on the the u19s with at least 5 inclusions to the first match of the finals. only losing to the top side by 20points would be a good thing considering the names who will come back this week. i dont think they would need 22 let alone "24"
