not a bad effort there agree with a lot except for:

DIV 1: will basically only be between OX and De La

DIV 2: St. Bedes more than just a smokey

DIV 3: Bullen no chance, MHSOB no chance, Oakleigh no chance, would put BENTLEIGH and OLD MENT. in before those two

DIV South: Parkdale no chance, Prahran - Caulfield wooden spoon!

DIV North: no clue bout this

I'm a study of Div1-3

Div 1
Rupo
DeLa
OX
StB

Div 2

O Camb -

how the hell did they remain in Div 2 after 4-6 years of success at 1or2 - if they dominate the season as many predict - it will not look good on Jeremy Bourke at HO

Caulf
St Bedes - Lost a few players + some for seniors - should still be ok
WFriars

Brighton have lost a few players plus late appointment of coach

Div 3
Bulleen
MHSOB
Ormond
Old Ivanhoe

Dale,
I think you will find that camb unders have never been in div 1, let alone in the past 4-6 years. That comment way off the mark and a lot of their success was in red /div 3, prior to last years success.

I heard they beat Old Xavs by 5 goals a couple of weekends ago.
Any truth to the rumour?

Practice Games this weekend:
Old Trinity vs Old Scotch

Just to bump this bad boy up.

Old Trinity were clearly out-classed by Old Scotch, kicking one goal all day and losing by roughly 100 points.

Probably not a true indication of Scotch's true talents as Trinity was pretty woeful. Nonetheless, i'd imagine it'd be a confidence boosting victory for Old Scotch coming up to Round 1.

Old Scotch were pretty pathetic last year, but they'll be in the mix come finals time.

BS - you may have miss-read my post - they have been very successful in Div 2 at position #1 or #2 on ladder post GF in last 4-6 years... ..they won Div 2 GF 2006 however they successfully went to league pleading their case to stay in Div2 for 2007...why??

Credit to Uni Blacks that finished (I think) 4th last year and accepted the VAFA challenge and stepped up to the plate to have a crack in Div 1 in '07 - well done to that club.

Ok, i did misread it. It is still wrong, however as they haven't been in section two for 4-6 years, and some of the success you are referring to was in lower grades. They also came fourth in 2005, not 1 or 2.

I understand they may not have enough players to field a team and are in a sharing arangement with another club, hence their desire to stay in section two.
Blacks were desperate to go to section one to compete with Blues, which makes sense.

Your comments reflect their reason for staying down direct from their application - for some of us old VAFA stalwarts it takes a bit of gloss from the elevation/relegation process every team earns or yearns.

Go and have a nice glass of Cab Sav old son.

OLd mentionians are a big shot in division 3 this year, as long as the school doesnt take away there good young kids they will certainly be up there and they have challenged division 2 teams in there praccy matches at half strength. They are definately the dark horse

Indeed, the elevation/relegation system is a good one, however, it is sometimes problematic at the Under 19 level.

The majority of last year's Old Camberwell team no longer qualify for unders and very few kids came through from the school. They had hardly any kids down in the preseason and are still battling to field a full side.

That said there are still a couple of handy players from last year but one would have thought they would have been well out of their depth in Div 1 this year.

Fair call torps - hard to assess standards until they are underway - as long as the games/divisions are competitve so as an association and we can give the kids a run and keep them playing in the future.

True, however i would have said Hillier, DeSanctis, Romanin etc were more than just handy players...

lets get some tips in though- even if just for one grade.

St Bedes will play finals in Division 2 - no doubt in my mind. They will be ruthless at home. Collegians mu8st be the smokey . . . new coach but the players are a bit up and down in their form / attitude ?

Division 1 - always hard to go past the current De La kids . . . Xavs always OK and maybe Uni Blues and Scotch to round out the 4.

Had a chat to romanin the other day; dont expect him to be playing much 19's.

Well as I said, he played seniors in 2006 so not sure why he would not be held in that same regard for 2007 ? ? ?

Camberwell Seniors having said that have recruited better than ever on paper so tougher to get a game (if they actually play). . . .

How are the boys from Ivanhoe looking this year mate, have you guys kept many from last years side, espcially all your big blokes... good team, unlucky to lose to Ormond in last years semi i thought!

yeah there are a fair few that are still ther efrom last years semi, and will be once again top 4
