U23 team

[Enviable Tradition]

A lot has been said about our young crop.

Here is my best U23 Port team projecting forward a few years to allow for development.

As has been said KPD and maybe a gorilla forward is the need but gee it looks good.

FF: Hayes Marshall Butters
HF: Mead Giorgiadis Williams
C: Duursma Houston SPP
HB: Bonner Pasini Bergman
FB: Garner Grundy Burton

Centre: Ladhams Drew Rozee
Bench: Mead Atley Farrell Patmore Woodcock Burgoyne.

I hope we start the year with a U23 game again. I'd love to see this team line up.

I’d have Burton at CHB over Pasini/Grundy. Hopefully we can find some decent tall defenders soon T.T

If Buzza played, I reckon they'd put Marshall down back with Burton and Pasini/Grundy.

We have a significant divide between age brackets which makes this a pretty valid exercise, but the problem is it excludes a few of our players just outside of the bracket that are more than likely to be here far longer than 5 years. ie. Clurey, DBJ and Amon.

If you insert those 3 you get a pretty realistic gauge of our position for the future.

It’s a great exercise to see where we need to target in future recruiting.

We’ve really added some attacking players in recent drafts

For me it highlights some new needs

- key defenders

- key forwards

- small defenders
Garner and nothing else after that is very very thin.

Midfielders
We need genuine mids. Houston and rozee are going to make a great core of skilled ball winning mids. But we need to surround them with some Gut running 27+d winning mids.

We’re also going to need some grunt mids to. Drew will fill that hole some, Atley is very much up in the air. An in and under will be needed.

The good news is that 2 areas of extreme need, key defenders and small defenders, can be 2 of the easier and cheaper to fill if we make them a target.
