Shit thing I've noticed with Ubers is sometimes they'll ring and ask you to get picked up somewhere more convenient to them. Sometimes it's understandable but when they just can't be bothered turning around or moving 300m down the road then cancelling if you don't do what they say it's pretty shit.

I just finished going through to process to drive ubers. my first night will be Saturday night

I've already got my backseat entertainment system ready to go :thumbsu:

Mints?

Keen appreciation of the exact moment to shut the hell up and let your passengers talk to each other?

I might be the only one but frankly I couldn't care less about cabbies on the phone. I don't really want to have a conversation with them anyway.
Yup. I'm not paying them to talk to me, I am paying them to drive me safely to where I need to go.

i'd prefer they were paying attention to the road than having a conversation for the entire time they are driving but then my scariest experience in a cab involved a white haired old white dude listening to jazz and taking sips from a hip flask while he drove me down the freeway around 4pm one fine day

Yeh if they’re not paying attention to the road fair enough but i don’t want to have a convo with them so chatting away while I do my own thing I couldn’t care at all about.

Couldn't care less about having a conversation. A lot of the ones I've had who talk in their ear piece while driving have me extremely nervous as a passenger. They're not paying enough attention and they're shit drivers.

Is talking on the phone via an ear piece really any different to talking to someone else in the car?

It's not, they've done studies on this.

Hands free is pointless, it's the point when the other person has finished talking and you need to think of something new to add to the conversation that the driver becomes most distracted, whether they are in the car or on the phone.

Well

Uber cancelled three times on me.

So I signed up to Shofer.

Got a Shofer arrival at my house in 5 minutes after signing up and requesting.

Uber is getting shown up like a downhill skiing football team in a finals match away from home.

If it is any consolation, the drivers that cancel on you are marked down significantly. Once they dance on riders a certain number of times they basically get kicked off the platform.

I’d also complain to Uber about and it and they usually give you a credit. Say they are acting as bad as taxis or something

We're the largest city in North America without any ride-service. I don't think I'd use it much but I know it sucks for others. Must be frustrating for tourists.
I did not know that about Vancouver, is that a city or provincial thing? I must admit living where I do in Adelaide I wouldn't even consider using Uber when there's change from $20 after a cab home from the city.

Provincial. I’m not sure about some of the smaller Provinces but am sure Alberta, Ontario and Quebec have it. They’ve been talking about it for ages here but still haven’t given the green light.

Had a few Ubers cancel on me, but one guy did and then it still charged me $10

Had to follow it up to get it back and they only gave me uber credit, pretty rubbish

It's banned in Germany altogether which was a pain in the arse to navigate Hamburg and Berlin.

Uber is banned in the NT.

To be honest it is short sighted bullshit.

Shoving themselves down people's throats with ads everywhere. Will be hated like Google and Facebook within 2 years.
