Well that didn't go to plan.

First pen a bit harsh imo. It did hit his arm, and you do see them.given but was it a clear and obvious error?

Second pen I'd have to see again. At least two Schalke players offside when the ball was kicked.

Still, we've just got to get on with it. We're good enough to win the match, just need a lift all over and cut out stupid errors.

I think 4 or 5 of ours have been booked so could be a problem.in the second half.

Bit of a generalisation on Sterling. He has the odd game like that but unfortunately they are getting rarer and rarer and he saves most of them for England duty.

I think it’s a good call. He’s good at doing things impulsively, but give him time to think and he’s like fish out of water. He is all fast fibre, twitchy, jinky kind of player, but doesn’t have a lot of composure

It's not about a bad game in general, it's more his decision making when he's one on one. He had a chance to shoot or pass, dithered and passed late and it was blocked.

I hate it when a ref intervenes in a game with bad decisions.
That first pen was ball to arm , not intentional handball .
2nd pen , there is minimal contact and the guy flops over like a fish .

On the handball - if it was Spurs I#d want the penalty arguing that the ball was about to hit the back of the net.

But - VAR is supposed to be "clear and obvious error". The ref made a decision immediately. VAR took ages. That itself should indicate its not "clear and obvious" and therefore you can't overrule the decision.

They really need to sort that out. It's not hard.

It took ages because there was a problem with the pitchside screen, as I said earlier on this page
