The ref in the Juve v Lyon game was either the worst ref I've ever seen or he's bent. Either way he should never referee a big game again. Two ridiculous penalty awards in the first half. And yet again, what is the point of VAR if they are not going to overturn clear errors?

Bit of a shame Juve-Lyon clash ruined by two very poor penalty decisions, why they don’t use VAR on both is baffling. Juve fans could say Lyon created nothing but didn’t need to after that first penalty. For Juve too much depends on Ronaldo. Expect Sarri will be gone in next 24 hours

A quick google of the ref reveals that he was once banned for 6 months for taking a bribe.

The penalty calls were not 'controversial'. They were blatantly incorrect. I can only assume that the VAR official was in on the corruption.
