I dont get why the whole thing had to be redone?

The problem was initially putting Man United in a pot as a potential opponent against Villarreal which they couldnt draw because they just played in the same group right? So United were pulled out first when they shouldnt have been in the pot to be possibly pulled out. Ok. So now we've removed United, the same teams who are eligible to play Villarreal are still in the pot. They picked out City. Move on.

Nothing was compromised. Weird...

Liverpool couldn't get Villareal as the only 2nd place teams available were Villareal, Inter and PSG at that time with first place teams of Liverpool, Real Madrid and Juventus still to come. Real Madrid had to get PSG because Inter was in same group and Villareal from Spain and Juventus couldn't get Inter as both Italian so they had to get Villareal, leaving Liverpool Inter as another forced match up
