You can't blame them though. As frustrating as it is, the sport allows you to prepare and strategize however you want. They have worked out that standing up and using your hands is only a means to avoid being Ko'd until you can take your opponent down. They've trained wrestling and sambo since they were kids and they don't need to develop much beyond this because the rest of the MMA community haven't worked out a way to beat it.Southern Russian's. Dagestanis and Chechens.

DDP did well to not get stopped in all that time, but he did cop a fair old shagging.I actually thought DDP had good enough ground game to have plenty of opportunity on the feet to knock him out but geez I was wrong… 21 minutes 20 seconds control time![]()

I guess it shows that he knows his striking is second rate , Gilbert burns drew even with him. It was an incredible effort to pin DDP for five rds though . Hopefully Caio can beat Imavov cos his bjj is pretty damn good whereas Imavov I’m not sure will have more than a punchers chance .boring style though just pinning someone down and tapping there face
The 10 seconds of stand-up were exciting.boring style though just pinning someone down and tapping there face
Whittaker's comments are getting a lot of coverage at the moment.
As I wrote in this this thread immediately after the fight, I admire what Chimaev did in terms of his athletic and technical ability.
He manhandled a big, strong dude, like he was playing with somebody two weight classes below him.
This doesn't change the fact that it was a relatively boring fight (which I blame both Chimaev and DDP for).
If this makes me a 'casual' then okay, I'm a casual, big deal.
We'll see how Chimaev's first defense goes (a year from now?) and if it happens again, there'll be more 'casuals'.
And if it happens again after that, there may be fewer viewers in total, and an even higher proportion of 'casuals'.
Sydney in the mid00s played a smart, shut-down strategy, and they played it well, but it didn't make for particularly entertaining footy.
Serie A is full of teams of who go slow once they have a 1-0 lead. They're excellent at it.
Mid-table La Liga teams do the same thing.
This is probably a big reason why Serie A and La Liga have fallen way behind the Premier League (oil money aside).
Some of us can appreciate the technical / strategic elements of pro sports without necessarily wanting to watch contests / teams / individuals centred on it.

Khmazat was never gonna gas when he was holding him on the crucifix and resting himself and then holding him against the cage and resting. That's why I found it boring. There was **** all scrambling and wrestling exchanges it just looked like a big brother holding a little brother down giving him a wet willy for 23 minutesFair enough dude. Personally I found it gripping, I kept expecting Khamzat to gas so thought DDP would end up having some success keeping it on the feet which he kind of did maybe in the last minute of the fight? Either way so many people have called it boring I'm not going to disagree with their opinion or claim I'm a "non casual".
Thing is at least the rest of the card was pretty great so I'm sure so called "casuals" would have loved two back spinning elbow KOs!

Dricus was almost never in any danger yet never even close to getting up

Like 39 significant or something. That's gotta be the lowest ratio ever527 strikes landed and DDPs face looked clean![]()
