I don't think they expected Paddy to try "stand and bang" for 25 minutes without even trying to get it to the ground. Even after his corner begged him to do that, he basically committed to fighting exactly as Gaethje wanted.

He said the solar plexus blow midway through the 1st really shook him. Obviously he then copped all sorts of head damage but it sounds like that early body shot was pivotal.
