the match essendon played the previous week against sydney was completely different too ... the umps barely paid a freekick with the exception of Goodes, who was given a few softies.

From a player's perspective, how you're meant to maintain consistency in a contact sport with such discrepancies between umpire's interpretations week-to-week is beyond me.

I have a rule where I don't speak about umpires or umpires decisions which has made footy so much enjoyable for me this year, but I couldn't help myself on Friday night. The amount of frees they gave the Bulldogs was very annoying.
It wasn't just the free kicks they gave to Bulldogs it was the lack of frees they didn't give to us.

They still would of beat us without the frees, it didn't cost us the game.
