Have you seen 2014 movie It Follows? Horror film about trauma and aging which could be anywhere but being set near and in Detroit seems to be trying to say something. The kids live in comfortable homes but in neighbourhoods that look like they peaked before they were born.

Really enjoyed that movie, loved the cheesy atmospheric 80/90s vibe.

Have only been to Brussels in Belgium and indeed it is a shithole
