The whole thing was a disaster in the making thanks to Tory austerity leaving public services severely under prepared for dealing with such scenarios. Any chance of getting the UK in the right direction fell apart the moment who couldn't even bring himself to slap Dominic Cummings on the wrist way back earlier in the year. And them you've got his general buffoonery - is he going to demonstrate a plan outside of lock downs? - and lack of leadership - even if he had a plan would anyone follow any more.

The Tories have botched this precisely because they haven't listened to the experts. Johnson wanted herd immunity to begin with, because lockdown would hurt the economy and therefore the bank balances of his mates. It was only when it became clear the virus wasn't something to 'take on the chin' (well, clear to the Tories, it was obvious to anyone else prior to that) that action got taken, but then the government reopened pubs and restaurants, tried to get people back into commuting, and reacted with astonishment that cases of the virus are on the rise again. Oh, and they've managed to completely mangle the track and trace system. Shambolic, but what did anyone expect from Johnson and co?

This is not a fact.

What BoJo should have done is locked down, got track and trace right, got a quarantine system for people returning from o/s, protected vulnerable citizens, and then reopened.

He didn't do it because he can't do it.

Acting like a buffoon while expertly cutting his way up the ranks got him to Number 10. (Or 11 - he did take over the bigger residence from his minister didn't he? Telling him and his kids to cram into the smaller place?)
