Have looked across BigFooty and haven't really found any material, so I thought this thread might be relevant.

A lot of us play in very deep leagues, either with lots of teams, lots of players owned per team, or both. As such, the free agency pool gets VERY bare, and sometimes we have to do a bit of reaching to find ourselves some talent.

Thought I would use this as a thread for people to give suggestions and tips for those looking for any player who might be able to play a role, squeak out 70 or 80 each week and most importantly get on the park. We don't want to be relying on Zac Dawson off the wire do we?

Anyway, my team (16 team league, 5-6-1-5 plus one emergency, 7 bench) so over 400 players owned.

This was our draft. Snake format, it is a keeper league (8 keepers per team, kept for X-2 round they were drafted in, you can trade away keeper rights) but this was the first season. I am the team with Pendlebury. The draft was completed about two weeks before the start of the season.

Since then I have dropped Cam Pederson for Daniel Robinson of the Swans, but with injuries I might be in a shade of trouble for round 1.

So any help/hints or otherwise? Also can use this thread in general to discuss which players (not necessarily rookie priced for salary cap games) might be working their way into best 22s etc...)

i would of loved your draft, in our draft all gun forwards and ruck forwards were gone by 25, everyone realises mids are the easiest thing to find

Ironically since benches were so deep, replacement level mids were hard to find if you weren't online the moment teams were dropped.

In fact, one person only had two playing midfielders to choose from when he got a chance, had to choose between Nick Suban (60) and Neal-Bullen (110)

He chose wrong obviously :p

Couple guys in my waiver wire I'm interested in but its hard when people from my league are on Bf!

Defenders are hard to find in a 12 team 22 player league.

How does your team look now??

Tippett, Montagna, Stevie J all gone.

We can only keep 8 players, for two rounds earlier than they were initially drafted, so my keepers were

Billings for a 6th rounder
Roberton for an 8th rounder
Blakely (def) for a 13th rounder
Witts for a 15th
Petrevski-Seton for a 19th
Bailey Dale 24th
Houston 25th
Dixon 26th

Here are the first 14 rounds. We have a few rounds to go and then I will post the rest. Feel free to let me know where I stuffed up (I had pick 9, the teams that made finals had picks 9-16, while the lower finals played off for the number 1 pick)

Snake draft, so Kade Simpson was pick 16 and Ryder pick 17

Bump...

Another season of mid table medicocrity for me, being bumped out in the first round of finals, and ending up with pick 10.

My keepers

Billings for a 4th (2nd keep of 3 max)
Polec for a 7th
Blakely for an 11th
Witts for a 13th
Zac Williams for a 15th
Houston for a 23rd
Dixon for a 24th
Aaron Vandenberg for a 26th

Thoughts so far. My team is the Gaff team obviously. Players with coloured backgrounds were picked, those with white backgrounds and coloured names were kept, the numbers of times kept in brackets. Players can be kept a maximum of 3 years before being thrown back in the player pool (curse those guys who picked up Clayton Oliver and Josh Kelly late in 2017) 1552111252861.png

Hi all,
First year UF participant and League creator - have sucessfully recruited 9 teams but the draft system requires an even number.
Is there a disadvantage in the fixture (can't see this year's fixture until post draft) to having a dummy team in the mix?
As in, does everyone play them the same number of times?
Appreciate the help!

They almost certainly won't play the same number of times unless you play through the byes.

3 bye rounds means 20 rounds of play.

A 9 (10) team fixture will need 18 rounds. Unless you can set the finals to be two rounds only, which is a bit sucky.

Id just try and find one more person, either through facebook or here or whatever.

Bump.

I managed to win the flag in 2019 with a pretty elite draft and team, with having about 12 decent keepable players was able to parley some trades for gun mids (half a year of Zerrett for 2.5 years of Sexton and 1.5 years of Houston at a cheap draft pick) etc...

Was terrible last year but ended up with pick #5 (crap place to pick from)

Have one tough keep decision. Pick 3 of the following four. I lean to dump Rowbottom but it hard to drop a guy who is a starting midfielder keepable for pick 300+ in the draft lol.

Gryan Miers for a second time for a 20th Round pick, can be kept once more after this
James Rowbottom for a second time for a 21st Round pick, can be kept once more after this
Damon Greaves for a 26th round pick, can be kept twice more after this
Zac Bailey for a 24th, can be kept twice more after this
Lock keepers

Matthew Rowell Round 4 (pick 69), with an option to keep him in Round 2 2022
Caleb Daniel Round 5 (pick 92)
Paddy Ryder R8 (pick 123)
Zac Williams R11 (pick 165)
Jordan Dawson R22 (pick 3xx something)

Can't dump Rowbottom imo - its either Greaves or Miers, with my preference being Greaves

Ha too late.

Ended up dropping Rowbottom (he was picked up by someone else Round 11 around the Mundy/Tuohy/NM Phillips range for mid, I was going to redraft him around R14).

Hopefully Greaves can become a 3 year 80+ averaging back.
