I understand that mate, but it will just end up another 'Best of' thread same as all the others - I might be in the minority but I sort of understood this thread to be about blokes who set themselves and played out of their skins on the big day.

Something different, actually original.

And as much as I love Crawf (and his game in '08 was good) there would be a lot of players in front of him.
fair point .
what an enviable position us hawk fans find ourselves in .

Quick question. Are people assessing the Premiership players on their ability in Premiership sides or by comparison to their entire careers? My read is just their performance on Grand Final days.

Thanks in advance.

(I just hope people research the history, and dont just vote for the current lot. eg: Man United supporters voting Wayne Rooney in their top 10 all time players lol)

It would have to be based on GF/flag performances, otherwise it's just another TOTC.

Taking it on that basis puts blokes like Dear, Lawrence, Hendrie and Robertson in contention for places because they starred in flag sides.

Dean Anderson is another one that could get a look in. He was outstanding in 1989.

Forward line of Dunstall, Hudson and Franklin.

How anyone can not think Hudson is the full-foward is utterly beyond me. 727 goals in only 129 games. Different eras, but he and Coleman were complete full-forward freaks that dominated to no other extent.

If working off krisholio14, no way Franko makes this team.

HF: Buckenara Brereton Hudson

F: Matthews (c) Dunstall Moncrief

Forward Interchange: Kennedy
Forward Emg: Dew

As a starting point and based on the criteria so far, fair to say

absolutely making the team
G. Ayres (2 x Norm Smith)
C. Robertson (NS 83)
L. Hodge (NS 08)
P. Dear (NS 91)

The Big Game players
Dipper (for his 89 performance alone)
Lethal (Brutal in the GF's)

More research required.....

Franklin replaces Buckenara or Moncrieff but if it's premiership criteria then not yet
Can we sort out the criteria for this once and for all?

The idea is players who had the big kahunas on the day - not who was the most worthy over their career.

So no Franklin, no Crawford, no Jarmen - think Gary Ayres, John Hendrie, Mort Arthur.

Blokes that somehow saved their best for last.

Think Dipper.

Really it was JK jnr who deserved the NS in 83
Robo put Watson out of action and was then presented with the NS medal!!

With respect to Colin Robertson, and he played a fine game in 1983, I'd be very surprised if we couldn't find 22 players more deserving of a spot.

When I think of Robertson, I always recall how he was involved in an incident against Essendon, and all the Essendon fans booed John Kennedy for the rest of the game :)

The earth is about to end, we agree on something TAITA. :D

I'm taking it as performances on Grand Final Day alone too. No offence to Crawford or Franklin, but Dew gets the nod because he changed a GF. Franklin's two goals were important, but then so was Hodges bomb from that free kick. Hodge was epic over the entire 100 mins.

Hodge and Dew are the only 2008 players to make my side. Apologises to Willo and Young if he played 100 minutes.

Please Hawks members, don't make it a side of your favourite current players combined with the 80s legends. The whole idea is to watch all the GFs and make a decision then. Moncrieff was a big game player, kicking 4 in 1978. He's in.

The disappointing thing about this is in order to win a flag, you must first make a Grand Final. In 2008, I'm pretty sure in my mind we wouldn't have even been there had it not been for Buddy's incredible season. However, he was quiet in the GF, as a lot of champions often are for some reason. (i.e. Wayne Carey).

This criteria would automatically disqualify Buddy from the team, which would be disappointing.
