We had some solid talent in the forward line early 2000s neitz, robbo, davey, green, bruce, use all running through there. Also the delivery was pretty good, though the game was different then. Brad Green had such a beautiful kick you just knew he was going to score. Neitz was like that but later on started to get the yips. Yze was just a freakish talents just did things not many others could do.
Don’t know if it’s just my grog addled brain but I seem to remember more guys who could consistently slot them from 40-50 out.

That’s because forwards didn’t run up and down the ground for team defence.

Neita’s forward 50 pressure consisted of bombing goals from 55m or crashing packs/ collarbones. Robbo would sit on your head or kick a freakish goal from the boundary.

An footy was so much better when it was like that.

What I wouldn’t give for a forward performance like this again nowadays

That would be my pick for best round 20, we lost 7 in a row until that point and had to beat a very good Geelong side at kp for the first time in 17 years. By the time we played them again 3 weeks later we were cooked because we basically played 3 elimination finals before hand. Also noticed a tackle that may have been a free kick today because of the slinging motion.

So round 1 in going with Essendon in 2005. Troy broadbridge memorial game.

15.13 103 to 8.9 57

Ryan Ferguson played the game of his life. Brent Moloney kicking 55m bombs. Yze working his magic.

Round 2 2004

Melbourne defeated Richmond
20.15 135 to 12.4 76

Richmond were very cocky after knocking of Collingwood round 1.
Neita bagged 9

Honourable mentions;

1998 defeating north by 4 goals. Burst out to a big lead and held on a late charge.

2001 Adelaide Leoncelli with the match winner

Round 3 2018

Melbourne def North melbourne

18.15 123 deg 13.8 86

The hoodoo is finally done

Round 4 2006

Sydney vs Melbourne

13.14 92 VS 15.7 97

After a winless opening 3 rounds to melbourne the pressure was mounting on an aging playing list and 2 EF losses in 04 and 05. Trip upto Sydney against the reining premiers. Bruce kicks the match winner in the dying moments.
