Yes. How far "out of square" does it have to be before they call it back and re-bounce - there were a couple of shockers tonight which went Brisbane's way.

When the umpies don't call frees "both ways" for the same infringements then it begins to increasingly bring the game into disrepute.

The goal umpiring mistakes were pathetic, luckily for them it didnt affect the game.

Generally if there's a United Nations conference between any of the goal, field, boundary umpires and Kofi Anon, it'll almost certainly be the lesser score (that's unless any one of those entities is absolutely 100% sure of what they saw).

It'll be a fair achievement if it's discovered by the AFL that there was three scoring mistakes in tonight's game, seeing there's only roughly six on average overall in a year.

Two things, ducking the head has been thrown out of the rule book it seems and also when tackled buckle knees throw yourself forward and you get push in the back.

Oh but if you wear an AFC top you wont get anything of the above.

Well **** me but Scott Thompson is getting r*ped with holding the ball decisions. So far this season he has copped 5 of the worst holding the ball decision you are ever going to see. Dead set crap!

Im just amazed at the persecution this bloke is suffering at the hands of the umpires. Deadset the opposition must know by know that if you can hold the ball in against him in the tackle itll be called holding the ball, regardless of prior oppurtunity, which he is clearly not getting.

Really pays to be the one trying to get the ball these days doesnt it?

I have only managed to watch one game this week so far and thus have no idea of either the Swans or Crows game, BUT I bet that even I could identify the areas where the umpiring was crap in both of those games, and no I am no Einstein either.
It is sadly predictable isn't it?
Or should that be sadly unpredictable vague rules?

Dude, I could never find my team boring (I'm not having a go or anything). What I would give to be able to watch them in the flesh. If they are winning, I am happy, doesn't matter if they are chipping it in their 50 endlessly, I am happy. If they provide a contest, and do their best, then I am happy. It need not be an exciting contest, as it is already exciting because my team is playing. Nothing else matters. And that's the way it should be.

Agree, but I do not think you'll find many supporters of any team that find their own games boring.
However a boring Adelaide game is just that ... to non Adelaide supporters.

2. Super Goalie has it right - however, it says if Goal umpire was unsure. My understanding is field umpire was unsure and Goal umpire thought he was 100% correct.

3. I do agree though, a third umpire scenario should be brought in instead of the Maggot conferences. However, we dont want them always creeping into the game. Say as a rule of thumb make it so that it is only when 3 umpires in total get together to make the decision - 2 field, 1 goalie or 1 goalie, 1 field and 1 boundary (unlikely though as boundary should be covering the point post) or 2 fields and a boundary.

The field umpire said Basset definetly touched the ball, but the goal umpire said he was 100% sure he didn't, bit of a confusing one, but the field umpire was correct in the end.

The thing is, that the goal umpires aren't watching the ball travel towards the goal in such instances, they're watching the other post. Basset touched the ball, as did the Brisbane player, before the ball went through the posts so the goal umpire doesn't see the touch.

On a plus note, two years ago he would've dropped his bundle over decisions like that. Seems to be just getting on with the game this year, definiately matured in that sense.

haha this is very true. the funny thing was I was so pissed off i was almost willing Scotty to have a go at the maggot about the decision. Glad he is a little more mature than i am.

Just flew back in from Brisbane & started going through the threads...

This was one thing that really cheesed me off during the game - McBurnie was the main culprit being sucked in by the Brisbane players acting, and the consistency (ultimately more important than the actual free count) was shocking.

Bernie Vince in particular will have to learn to adjust his tackling style because it's not as low as it could be, and players throwing their heads back/ducking are milking too many frees off him.

All Goal Umpires > Brisbane Goal Umpires

Actually she is from SA and apparently is an Adelaide member. She is also the one that paid a touched goal last year at Cararra that would have put Melbourne in front. Having seen replays of both her decisions (after seeing them live) I believe she got it right both times.

The umpiring was dreadful - not in terms of free's paid (although some were dubious - but Brisbane act beautifully) but in terms of the same free's not being paid to us. Frustrating the crap out of me. So much so I still have no voice!

I watched the replay last night, and the umpiring was a disgrace closely followed by the commentary. Ive listed decisions that were crap:

1. Holding the ball against Mattner, picks the ball up, gets tackled to the ground, has about 2 players on him, has his back to the umpire and he calls HTB? How if he couldnt see it?

2. Brown duck. Enough said.

3. Griffens non goal.

4,5 & 6. Vince and Shirley called for throwing when they actually handballed. Johnson not called for throwing

7. Jerichos goal disallowed due to Bock using his body against Roe who fell over.

8. Roe not getting pinned for deliberate out of bounds when he tried to rush a point.

9. Bassetts touch which was called a goal.

10. Thompsons holding the ball when Adcock was holding the ball to him.

11. Adcocks attempt at a screamer over Bassett. Had to be in the back.

A number of these resulted in goals or goals disallowed.

On the receiving end we were lucky with 2 decisions, Goodys touched goals and Welsh free for holding in the last quarter.

What the hell is going on? Have the umpires got together to decide to screw us over? Its not like we are a team of backchatters.

Having said all of that, we seriously need to learn how to tackle. About 5 decisions paid for too high, one by Goody and Bassett who should know better. And how many missed tackles, the opposition break free to easily.
