How many people think that John Harvey is the WORST umpire in the world. I've watched games where the Crows aren't involved and he is a disgrace on both sides. The umpiring panel must have a good look at this and get rid of him ASAP!!

i hate to agree with a crows supporter...but you're spot on on this one, mate. Hes is the single worst umpire in the league...every time i have seen him umpire he's been deplorable.

Note to AFL.....rectify this situation please!!

I have to disagree with this one.

Scott McLaren, who wears number 11, is easily the worst umpire, eclipsing the feeble Harvey in the process.

Staggy, I invite you to cast your mind back as early as R22 1997 (Harvs' last game) or as recently as last week vs. the Bulldogs to have proof that McLaren ruined two Bombers games and has done it to every other team in the league.

I think you are all being a bit tough on John Harvey here. In my opinion he is no different to any other umpire - blind. They are all shockers, ask yourself if he is the worst umpire, who is the best? There is none.

Why single out one hapless individual when they are all crap ?

I seem to remember when asked what the coming seasons lowest point would be, one football journalist (I think it might have been Jim Main or one of those characters)said 'Just watch any umpire in any game'

Couldn't have put it better myself mate !

It seems to me that there is an easy solution to crap umpiring -

First of all reduce the field umpires from 3 back to 2 and stop the ridiculous spectacle of umpires over-ruling and contradicting each other out on the field.

Secondly, it seems that whenever ther is a passga eof play, be it a contested mark, a pile-up, a throw in or whatever, the umpires always seem to be thinking

"Where can I spot an infringement ? "

when really they should be thinking

"Play on"

Umpires should be seen and not heard and they should really only award a free kick for the most blatent and dangerous of fouls. Overly literal and overly strict interpretations of the rules should be avoided at all costs.

If the players knew that they will not get a free kick unless they are absolutely polaxed they will then stop the dreadful spectacle of 'staging' or taking dives or wildly gesticulating at the umpire instead of going for the ball.

Footy should be fast, open and free flowing not a stop start affair where the most imporatnt person on the oval is the umpire. If we were interested in this kind of football we would all be watching Rugby Union.

Just my 2 cents worth - cheers to all

I agree with the posts that Scott McClaren needs a serious look at his standard of umpiring. He seems VERY biased against the west coast eagles and we all hate him over here in the west! As for Harvey, can anyone remember the game he and someone else gave away 76 free kicks in a West Coast vs Melbourne game at the WACA? I say bring back Peter Carey - at least he was a character and liked marking the footy
