Does this part of the score review process need to be looked at?

Why, when the goal umpire is unsure of what has transpired and asks for a video review, does it then get passed back to them when the review is inconclusive?

The guy has said "I don't know for sure" yet the final decision is passed back to them anyway.

Yes, the technology used in the process is incredibly poor but I think you need to live by it.

When the evidence is inconclusive that it hit the post, then it should be a goal. If the evidence that it was touched is inconclusive, then it should be a goal.

Please scrap this passing the buck nonsense.

Umpire's call stands because that is what happened before the crappy SD blurry garbage tech was introduced.

Here's the thing,

Last night a goal was overturned because the goal umpire originally said touched. The score review showed that it wasn't.

The decision is then passed back to the guy who was incorrect.

He might have actually watched the footage and deemed that it was a clear goal but has to live and die by his own mistake.

Its farcical.

LOL so you didn't agree with the call so it needs to be looked at?

You do realise if there was no such thing as a score review this umpire would have called it touch and a point anyway right?

When the footage is inconclusive, I'll always back in the umpire to make the best call they can. They're right there and are the best equipped to make the call on the situation. When the footage is conclusive - then it's up to the people doing the score reviews to make the right call. What happened last night was NOT the fault of the umpire, rather, the people doing the score review didn't do their jobs properly.

What needs to improve is the technology (it's ridiculous that it hasn't been) so we can get clear vision of what exactly happened.

So do that then. Why are we using technology that they don't want to rely on?
As I said in my first post, you have to live by that.
If you're not going to go by the footage that you have then don't do a review at all.
Passing the decision back to the guy that asked for the review to begin with is completely pointless.

Yeah it was embarrassing really I don’t know how much evidence is needed to overturn a decision even with the shite camera footage last night you could see it clearly wasn’t touched it looked even worse for the afl when the defender is laughing because he knew he didn’t touch it

That is because the score reviewer was too gutless to make call.

Without a score reviewer it still would have been called touched.

No a goal was not overturned as the umpire deemed it point and would have awarded it a point without the review system in place.

It would have been a goal if the score reviewer did their job and didn't pass the buck.

The slow motion replays compared to the nrl slow motion replays are abysmal. The ball is usually a fuzzy blur. No wonder its usually umpires call.
Get rid of the review unless you are prepared to fork out for proper cameras.

That has to do with the speed of the ball. It is the problem with these reviews in our game as the movement of the ball is a lot quicker than the reviews used in other sports where the ball itself isn't moving that quick.

Even cricket has the occasional issue with runouts where the frame misses the point where bat and ball both reach the stumps and crease.

The speed of the ball as cricket level is triple that of AFL, same with tennis. If they can get the camera's right the AFL has no excuse.
