Umpire's pets, Most goals from free kicks

Hawkins doesn't. He gets half as many frees as other tall forwards, despite rucking a lot and therefore getting more opportunities to get infringed.
Very difficult to win a free kick when you're standing behind your opponent and pushing him in the back with both hands.

If you want to stand 10m in front of Hawkins to stop him torching you on the lead, don't be surprised when the Geelong midfielders pop it over your head and make you double back to get to the contest. And don't expect Hawkins to just let you. He's allowed to hold his ground. Deal with it. The umps get a lot wrong but not getting sucked in by that is something- credit where it's due- they consistently get right.

Hawkins should also have more free kicks against him, he constantly pushes defenders in the back. He also from time to time adds a bit more mayo to get a free kick, so swings and roundabouts. Good luck to him.

Misleading stats. These are goals as a 'result' of free kicks and not goals kicked from free kicks, yes?

Not really relevant if the free kick isn't a direct shot on goal. It could literally be from a HTB at half back which is then immediately turned back the other way and results in a goal.

Also probably doesn't remove any goals kick from an advantage call.

They're misleading as a whole. They were wheeling these stats out in 2020 talking about Charlie Dixon getting the most free kicks as a forward. That's fine and all, but he was getting held at almost every contest meanwhile Franklin/ Hawkins basically throw opponents out the way all career and never get penalised. The goals from free kicks are the worst way of measuring how 'looked after' a team is because a) better teams kick more goals b) accurate teams kick more goals c) it doesn't account for advantage play on/ etc.

We're still at the bottom of the free kick differential ladder yet at the top of the goals from free kicks. Last weekend Mcentee got punched in the head 30m out directly in front of goal, not paid a free, then Geelong in the very next play get a arm chop free kick for a cheap exit and 12 point play. 5-10 minutes later, a undersized Geelong defender gave away a free to Finlayson by two-handed grabbing his arm on a lead. Finlayson kicks a 55m set shot goal. Those 2 decisions don't cancel each other out.
