I'm not usually one to blame umpires, but that decision to award a FK 20m out directly in front in the 3rd quarter was ****ing horrible and a big turning point in the game... then from the subsequent re-start, a clear HTB miss on Heeney and they went up and scored again. 24pts to 12, and they took right over from there.

And let's not mention the overrule to give Buddy the free from 40m away. Disgraceful.

4 umpires is ridiculous, every ump is looking to stamp his authority on the game. You don't want umps looking for frees, give them as they come.

Funny how Rance staging for a free gets more media coverage than the frees given against us and the non-decisions such as the disallowed goal and Dusty not getting the 50 against GWS

What will Chris Scott say if a Geelong player stages for a free this weekend? I bet there will be no mention of penalties for staging.

Clarksons commentary towards the umpires was telling in his presser. It was very clear his views.

Now imagine Hardwick said that, the media would still be talking about it.

Dimma praises them every single week which makes the umpiring shenanigans even more strange.

Anyone watch Collingwood's rolling of West Coast and was it Deboy's call that sunk West Coast giving a free to Reid while he was holding a fist full of West Coast jumper?

Nice that it wasn't Richmond for a change but geez he can call foul near the end of games.

I think he shits the bed late in games tbh

21 frees in the first quarter of our game. Have never seen such a tiggy touch over officiated game before. Favoured neither side, was just over petty and out of touch with the feel of the game.

HTB were insanely quick to be called, deliberates beyond ridiculous, and incorrect disposal was a raffle

Clearly something has to be done. IMHO the game is over umpired because there's too many rules that are too complicated to adjudicate at high speed.

The rules need to be scaled back and simplified to make decisions for the umpires easier and with much less misinterpretation from supporters.

I think the AFL needs to take some steps back to move forward on this one.

IMO the rules that most need attention are:

Deliberate Out of Bounds - All interpretation needs to be eliminated from the decision making process. If they want to reduce the amount of boundary throw ins, make the rule about something easily measurable, e.g. outside the 50m arcs, it's a free against the last player to clearly touch it (throw in if it comes out of a pack or if the ball is inside 50)...or any number of other solutions that don't require an umpire to guess what a player wanted to do

Holding the Ball - They need to clearly define this rule. It's ridiculous as it is. If a player has an opportunity to dispose of the ball and is then tackled and fails to make a legal disposal within 3 seconds, it's holding the ball. Every time. If they didn't have time to dispose of it, they can't be pinged for anything. If it comes out, play on. If it doesn't, ball up. Doesn't seem that hard.

Holding the Man - They need to crack down on this properly, not just pluck out the occasional one when it suits them.

50 metre penalties - Sometimes it's barely an advantage relative to the infringement that occurred (like when a late hit knocks a player out). Other times it's a free goal for a relatively minor offense. They should have 15, 30, 50 and 100 metre penalties that they can hand out according to the seriousness of the offense.

Honestly wtf were those green clowns doing on sunday????
Plain holding the ball against gws players called as in the back and their players would just drop the ball all day when getting tackled?
No reward for our tackling effort at all really
They were paying a free kick a minute in the first quater for the first 20 mins
Stop over umpiring and ruining the game

Only had to look left or right, fart, and it was play on.

Deboy kicked the sealer for the pies. Wce still had a chance and probably would have blown it anyway but deboy found a way to make sure the pies won.

Definitely nothing in what he saw and it should have been play on

Good post, the deliberate out of bounds is a joke and it needs to be black and white, like you say. Rances spoil that was called deliberate is embarrassing for umps. They'd be calling every spoil that went out deliberate. Plus the change in interpretation from the start of the season that potentially cost us a game to what it is now is completely different yet the afl haven't changed the rules.

The umpires are just dick heads.

Umpiring much improved of late , clearly Benny read the riot act to afl house . Yes we're trigger happy yesterday quite consistent though

Only clanger for mine was the deliberate against rance when he lunged to spoil and avoid his oppo marking

The first holding the ball/dropping the ball against Stevie J was a disgrace.

Peter Schwab effectively confirmed that the umpiring in the Tigers/GWS game was substandard. Basically said it was overumpired in the first quarter but more or less settled down after that. I take this to be political speak for umpires need to hold back on the whistle and exercise better judgement. Hopefully that comes to pass. We had a good run with umpiring decisions in recent games so this may just be an aberration.

Not even play on, Reid had a serious fistful of jumper as they both flew - think it was Schofield's. Should have been his free kick not Reid's. Hard to say what might have happened after that with enough time for wither side. But it seemed to be a momentum killer for WC. Deboy seems to be the worst at this and he has to be sent back to lower grades - has no sense or feel for the game.

I thought we went pretty well in this game too, definitely got the better rub of the green in the second half.
