Umpires robbed Port something stupid. Duckwood can throw his head back and win a free every time, even if it is his own teamate's incidental contact. Robbie Gray gets decapitated = Play on. The third quarter had an exact replica of Short's "Deliberate" - but it was fine, as the home town crowd kept silent. Umpiring standard is at an all time low. Just pathetic really.

It happens in NBA, NFL, EPL etc all the time.

a couple of decades ago i was at an AGM richmond town hall and as they do, they take Q from the floor. they handed the mike to a bloke and he said,,,,for years we ve been crucified by the umps, i reckon we pass the hat around tonight and then givem a real serve,,,,,he was dead serious, still laugh ,,,then cry when i think of it

I still reckon the AFL should have 20 fulltime professional umps. The rest stay semi pro. Each game has a min of 2 pro umps. The professional umps during the week can work on strength and conditioning and bounce practice as well as study interpretations and do reviews like players do. The entire dept wont go full pro as the accountants and lawyers wont give up their day jobs. I think this would improve the standards remarkably

I'd love to see the pro umps telling the semi pro lawyer and accountant umps what to do. Should do that and make it reality TV. I'd watch it

We have more frees paid against than any other team by some margin. Which doesn't include the non-calls that should be paid as free kicks. We'd be -100 if they were.

Just run my finger over the Umpire Profiles at the AFL site and jesus I can't really think of any one of them I'd like to umpire next weeks game against Norf without crucifying us.
