Why they felt the need to pay 60+ free kicks in a game which is shorter than normal ill never understand.

You don't mind if there is a 15 or so difference as long as they are consistant but they weren't even near that last night.

Still, i'd rather get screwed by the umps in the NAB cup than during the actual season.

The 60+ free kicks was the joke. Chamberlain seems to feel the need to pay a free kick in every passage of play. The Monfries one was probably there in the end. But a free kick a minute just ruins the game as a spectacle.

So what?

What does whining about it on BF do?

I can answer that, absolutely sweet **** all, except make those that do it and that club look like a pack of bad losers.
Well said MN. :thumbsu:
The fact that the bombers were playing young players and they young players were making the errors proves your point. :thumbsu:

Umpiring mistakes are part of the game.

Free kicks, whether there or not, are generally created by a player mistake anyway.

We've just got to suck it up and accept it.

Wouldn't have been able to make it next week. Over it now. Let them have another crack at a shitty trophy. They'll have the dvd out in no time.

LOL, me either. Now I can take my trip to Sydney without having to source out a pub showing AFL in rugby territory. I can concentrate on drinking and perving now. :D

To me the umpires weren't too bad last night.

There were some bad decisions put both ways, and most were called at the center bounce against us, its nothing to worry about thats just footy.

But I don't know what the big fuss is about, the only bad decision that really sticked was the Monfries diving on the ball free kick, it just about decided the game and is probably why we're all pissed off.

I'm not that ticked off from last night, but I guess we had to lose some time soon and last night was just perfect timing. Now we have another 2 weeks to use before round one and we don't have the pressure of the NAB cup grand final. Who cares that we miss out on the NAB cup final, its just the NAB cup, it doesn't even matter if we lose by 100 points in our first game, pre-season matches are just pointless warm up matches that just get players back into form before round 1.

did it never occur to you that the free kicks given were actual free kicks because of the undisciplined act, whenever people see the free kick count with one team higher than the other they always blame umps when in most cases its the team and players fault.

It went everything to Geelong from what I saw...

Stevic was the worst...
That last free kick was a shocker.
I think Saints got the better, But Majority of them were their, They just weren't payed both ways...

If you are referring to the HTB decision in the St. Kilda forward line last two minutes, you don't know the rules.
Essendon player dived on the ball, legally tackled by St. kilda player. Two other Essendon players went into the pack and subsequently blocked the ball from coming out. They're professionals, they know what they were doing and they were wasting time hoping for a ball up and a stoppage. The spirit of the law says "KEEP THE BALL IN MOTION". This did not happen immediately after the tackle was correctly laid and the correct decision was made to pay Holding the Ball.
I hope this clear description of the law helps you.

I agree that monfries deserved to be penalised. I was angry at the other 20 or so frees in the midfield to the saints. Some were from poor tackling I agree, but many were soft as butter. If that's how they are going to umpire this year then maybe the players should be wearing bibs labelled wing attack and centre.

Nothing wrong with the umps. We were just ill-disciplined.

Everyone goes on about the Monfries one, but Ryder gave away the stupidest free 50m in the third which cost us 9 points.

Loving Neagles effort though. Great stuff.

the umpires just loving blowing the whistle tonight.
it was like the just had to pay a free kick.
it didnt matter which way it went they just had to do it.

only one way essendon can get the free kicks going there way and that is be first to the footy!

essendon were 1st to the footy.
monfries got in for the ball and free kick was paid against us which lost us the game.
