Analysis Umpires

38, when will footy fans ever understand that each time there is a fight for the ball, there is a chance of someone infringing - when you are sitting there in a tight game willing your team on (like me) your every molecule is either hoping or willing or expecting the resultant free to go our way - please god let it go our way - when it doesn't there is more than the usual "oh well that was a mistake" - you are not getting what you want and your mind resents it, resists it, and looks for someone to blame - when the pack starts baying for blood, it feels right to join in and play the victim ie 'poor us' - I only ever put this explanation out a couple of times a year because no-one ever really understands what I'm on about - look a bit deeper at the input made by the supporter when claiming umpire bias - and go listen to wayne campbell's 3 things about umpiring that we should all know and accept - think it's on the guessen site.....

Couldn't agree more mate, once again their utter bias was on display for all to see.

with respect, I don't expect people to give it a fleeting thought let alone understand it.........but thanks.........and quit drinking daily.......

I'm sure I'm capable of digesting it. But more importantly...

How dare you disrespect the work of Kingsley Amis!

Every player on the field can release the ball under whatever condition in a scrap, and the umps are happy to let the play flow. Yet once Cripps has it they pull out the microscope.

He touched an opponent on the shoulder tonight while trying to move the ball on and immediately had it taken off him.
Cripps should have been pinged for holding the ball in the north forward 50 and wasnt. Swings and round abouts

The ump was in perfect position for the karate kick to Crippa ribs.. so it is either blatant incompetence that he doesn’t understand the rules or choosing to ignore it..

Not sure why, but every week Crippa seems to cop the wro Ng end of the stick from the umps.. Last year it was Liam Jones, but this year it’s Cripps.. can’t imagine he is too lippy to the umps so what is behind it.. I think it’s time Teague stands up for his skipper and calls it out publicly

:clapping:

And he is clearly getting very frustrated with it all, and he’s not on his own.

I think what you’re saying is when reality doesn’t marry up with our ideal, we struggle to function. Rationale and logic then make way for fallacious emotional reactions.

That’s why I keep saying, just as in life, there’s no room for emotion in football!

He is basically 50/50 for frees for and against. People just don't register when he gets a free kick and only remember when he gives them away.

a ball player like Cripps who cops a hard tag and a ragging 💯 of the time should be a 90/10 for against..

As for the umpires. I think it’s a thankless, incredibly difficult job. I think if you watch a game as a neutral observer, you will occasionally identify and acknowledge that an umpire has made a mistake or two. When it’s your side, you’re more inclined to think they somehow have a bias against you. It’s the difference between emotion and objectivity.

And then 3 umpires award 56 free kicks in a 64 minute game.

Now I'm confused - this off the port board:

"Blatant umpiring cheating. And ridiculously straight lucky kicking for goal. Never putting a cent into the VFL again. We are the only home team to never get home ground advantage from the umpires. To the contrary, we get reamed. Disgusting."

I was told the umpires are against Carlton? WTF??

Not sure what you’re not understanding.

The umpires that cheat against Carlton, hate Carlton.
The umpires who cheat against Port Adelaide, hate all South Australians.

Der!

ok - what about the op on the port autopsy thread - just for some colour:

- Umpires can f**k off
- Westhoff can f**k off (just f**k him off, he's no longer a footballer's a-hole)
- Bonner can f**k off

The club needs to call this umpiring out. When St Kilda gets this kind of ride less than a week after complaining about the umpiring in their last game, it needs to be called out. It's utter bullshit.

That simply proves unequivocally that we should complain about the umpires, and they will help us next week.
Obviously worked for the Saints.
