Analysis Umpires

The AFL & umpires are untouchable & reckless in their stewardship of our game.

They should always remember, it’s our game, not theirs.
Unfortunately it’s their game to **** up and they’re doing a damn good job of it.

It's one of the problems being a team at the lower end of the ladder. And doubly so when it's a contest between 2 bottom 6 teams. The AFL allocates the best umpires to the most important games. With the four-ump system coming in, we're now getting umpires in the ~30-45 range of the umpire list.

Off the top of my heads.

  • Frankie Evans Handpass into Darling's knee, then into another North Player's hands - called last disposal out of bounds.
  • Derksen front on contact in the last minute.
  • Cowan being called for a "sling" tackle for Wardlaw falling on him while Cowan was on the ground.
  • Young called for not standing when baited with the handpass.
  • Ollie tripped
  • Harry McKay over the shoulder and in the back by Comben
  • Jagga Smith jumper pulled in the pocket going on goa.

Feel free to add others, as I've definitely missed a lot.

The smothered handball that was called advantage.

Get rid of the video review for OoB.
Lasso only applies for disposals over 10m.
If it's still not clear who disposed of the ball, then throw in.

Fixed.
(Out on the full and deliberate still apply)

Get rid of the last touch rule completely. It’s a farce and adds nothing to the game.

If I'm honest, last touch should be the template for a rule from here on.

Trialed extensively at the lower level, implemented with notice, transparent, simple to understand and no interpretation required. Did the ball cross the boundary off someone's boot or handpass? If yes, free the other way; if not, throw in.

Mistakes happen, but if anything last touch is precisely what a rule change should be if you have to change the rules at all.
Until tonight.
It’s over officiated. It needs to be last disposal, not incidental contact. The jr umps here in QLD can get it right. How come the AFL can’t???

That insufficient intent free against Haynes in the first quarter was laughable. They threw the ball and tackled Cripps without the ball in the same passage of play in our goal square, play on. Tex jogging around on the mark whilst he'd already been asked to stand twice, play on.

Also how the hell does Geelong have a free kick differential of +44 after only 4 games? Would have to be on World Record pace!

2 weeks in a row now, we have been cheated.
Well if we (the club) say nothing, nothing will change. The crows have recently copped some bad umpiring mistakes and came out publicly yesterday saying - they didn’t want any more apologies from the AFL but wanted it fixed.

Well it worked Surrey, the game was certainly fixed in their favour…

Maybe our club is treading carefully and doesn’t want to upset the AFL ahead of the pending F/S rule changes, for fear of repercussions.

Adelaide Oval umpiring.

I´m not sure what you all expected.
Not that. Maybe a slight favouritism with the crowd but Adelaide aren't normally a team that get a good run with umpires. Last night was egregious it's like they were trying to pay them back for all the errors late in games the AFL have admitted to.

You get fined if you mention umpiring. There is zero accountability. The only time they make a statement about umpiring is when there is a bad decision with 30 seconds left in a close game that swings it. That's the issue. They don't care if umpiring is horrific across all four quarters. However, I do hope we are going to the AFL. The last 9 quarters we have played we have copped some awful one-sided umpiring.

My personal favorite was “stand, stand” - Walker proceeds to dance around & it’s just play on.
The throw in front of our goals was also disgraceful- everybody could see it was a Deadset shovel pass.

They have absolutely smashed us the last few weeks - Voss is gone, he might as well grow a pair and tell the umpires they are ****ed

The 4 free kicks from the centre in the 2nd quarter to the Crows ensured only one team was winning the game. Maggots then gave us some cheapies in the backline when the rain started, to even the count up, then whenever we got within 3 or 4 goals the maggots pulled frees out of their backsides and amazingly the Crows scored goals.

I don’t think Tex Walker got fined for giving his opinion on Wednesday about not wanting another AFL apology for umpiring errors..
