Why are people here suggesting McKay should have got a free for being knocked out? He got hit in the face in a marking contest. In a marking contest where the opposition player was contesting the ball, who cleanly got the ball in the spoil before McKay got to the ball.

This isn’t a free kick and will be the reason Frampton wont be cited by the tribunal.

It wasn't Frampton that hit Mckay it was Perryman ( #12) with a fist attempting to punch the ball away whilst at the same time connecting with McKays head. McKay hasn't got the rub of the green from the umpires in a while as he seems to get scragged and held off the ball at almost every contest.

Because there was an arm to he head straight after. A number of obvious frees were missed in the last.

Didn't stop Lachie Plowman getting done for concussing Jaeger O'Meara in a marking contest, which resulted in a free kick against.

Don’t think it’s necessary therefore for Harry to enter mandatory AFL concussion protocols if the AFL’s own Match Review Officer has deemed he wasn’t struck. 🙄

Nevile: "There's no strike here, here there's no strike, alright, strike no, Robo?
Robbo: "No strike"

Poor bastard copped a ball in the forehead, a forearm to the jaw and elbow behind the earhole.

If I recall correctly, Plowman didn’t get to the ball first and spoil the ball before hitting his opponent.
His fist made contact with the ball, his eyes were on the ball.

You can land on someone's back without intending it through a football act and concede push in the back. You can lay a tackle as a football act and get done for a dangerous tackle. You can do something that is within the bounds of the sport which results in breaking the rules and get suspended for it.

Or, at least, Carlton players do.

Punch the ball or not - forearm to the head is a too high free kick.

Can you imagine the stink being kicked up by everyone (lead by Macrae) if that had been a Collingwood player and they lost by 5 points and that free wasn't given?

We are very passive under Voss.

Carlton should be lodging a formal “please explain” on how our key forward ends up concussed from a forearm to the face in a marking contest that doesn’t get paid a free kick.
Absolute horse shit.

Deans push in the back should also be questioned.

Would be nice for the club to stand up in some form to the shit storm around us
Yes....it does seem like they have their head in the sand about certain things that the old extroverted Carlton would be making noises about. Maybe the new payment rules handed down for father/son picks just in time for young Walker has knocked the wind out of their sails, as they are supposed to be very unhappy about that!!! The whole season has become a new low for the club, and now that Carlton is down the bottom the umps really don`t give a :poo:!!!

it has not just been under Voss. All of our coaches did the same. I cannot ever recall Parkin being aggressive outside the club walls

Spoiling the ball first does not eliminate the too high rule.

I agree, but this wasn't from behind where collected above the shoulders and ball

If I have my arm out stretched and a player runs past and hits his face on my forearm, is it a free or play on?

Not sure if people watch a lot of football, but I have seen plenty of head high hits from the side, front and back with players connecting with the ball and head. Free kick every day of the week. Why, the head is sacrosanct and more importantly it’s a high hit!!!

Ps. Poor Walker nearly lost his head last week and got a fifty - pretty sure Harry was down longer from a legitimate hit.

18.5.1 Spirit and Intention

The Player whose sole objective is to contest or spoil a Mark shall be permitted to do so

18.5.3 Permitted Contact

Incidental contact in a Marking contest will be permitted if the Player’s sole objective is to contest or spoil a Mark.

I don't see anything outside of that which would warrant a free kick. I see it as a one of those things which happen when players are genuinely competing for the ball.

Being conscussed is not incidental contact.

Yet another near impossible rule to adjudicate. You see umpires pay over the shoulder every game for guys who have incidentally made shoulder contact from behind.

Pretty tough to be too hard on the umpires when the rules seem to blur the lines of what is acceptable and not.

Players flying for a mark can inflict a knee in the back of player’s head - which can result in a player getting concussed (ala Weitering).

It’s head high contact and can be severe impact, but if the intention is to mark the ball it’s not considered careless or intentional and is not even a free kick.

Fair comment, the head is sacrosanct until it isn't.

It is in the rules that it isn’t.
